methadone taper

I started a methadone program about 3 months ago. I recently found a forum concerning this and what I read has me horrified. I am so scarred I am losing sleep. From what I have read over and over again on the forum and also from what I have heard from some people I know is that no matter how slow you taper down from the methadone, you are going to go through worse hell than if you just went cold turkey from your drug of choice. I read that you won't be able to sleep for months and that the withdrawal symptoms are unbearable and lasts months also. Can you give me any information on this and is there an easier way. I am actually considering going back on morphine and tapering down from that. I can't afford that really though and don't know where I could even get it. I also heard that if you have gone to a methadone clinic for 1 month and have stayed clean, you can get a prescription from your family dr. Is this true?

Hi. I dont know too much about tapering from methadone I used it for a month to get off norco but it was a low dose. There are others on here who can help you im sure they will be around soon. 3 months doesnt seem too bad to be on it have u talked to the clinic about tapering off?

i am recovering from a 10yr affair with methadone
in 2004 i kicked a 200mg a day habit ct
you will be ok, do you have hep or any pre-existing medical condition that could complicate your wd?
and try not to worry so much about sleep, i have never slept well, its one of the reasons i self-medicated
after the acute detox i took trazadone for sleep, talk to your doctor about that
there is no sleep during the acute wd, no matter what you take
so rent some movies, learn a craft,, buy a playstation 3, and get through it any way you can
also goto 90 meetings in 90 days, that way you can be working on a relaspe prevention plan
you can do this, matinence drugs are a little harder to kick than other narcotics, because the wd is longer, but you have the information you need and seem willing to goto any lenghts to get clean
take your detox one day at a time, do not worry about what you are going to feel like on 10mgs, concentrate on today
stay out of that fear
