methadone to suboxone??

Ok...so ive been on this site now for over 9 months (clean) and i totally love trying to help others rid themselves of the shackles that drugs really are. N/A teachs me that helping others is my higher powers way of helping me. He always puts someone in front of me that really makes me put my life in perspective.  Now that i've stated that, i need to make an observation....
Is it just me, or does it seem like alot of people are going from methadone w/d to suboxone? Is this a normal treatment protocol now? It really bothers (scares) me, b/c i wonder if these people or drs realize that it can be just as dangerous? Might just be that i seek out titles with suboxone in it, b/c it was my doc for such a long time, but it does seem like ive been seeing this more and more? It has me worried b/c i know, for a fact, that it just prolongs the inevitable, but then makes the inevitable so much worse than it has to be? Just an opinion, but to me, thats just not the right route to take? Of course, would i have listened to someone telling me that when i was "dope sick".... probably not. I wish we could give people just a glimpse of what recovery really looked like, b/c i just know they would all want it.

Thank u sonrissa I know I will soon enough I guess lol can'twait to be truly clean! I will definitely be using this site when I do everyone's so caring and compassionate. Your right though the doctor that I go to wont even give you a script unless you are in there intensive outpatient treatment program,  which has helped me so much. But even at a place like that I've still had such a problem with the doctor not really trying to help me get off of them.  And every time I step down he's telling me I can just stay where I'm at since I'm doing so well,  which I understand there are a lot of people who relapse after getting off. But I think I'll do fine since I have completely changed my life and been clean so long. He has even told me some people have to be on them the rest of their lives and there's is nothing wrong with that, which I so dont believe in!

Hey newoutlook, congrats on the new baby!  I think that there is definately a place for Sub programs. Especially for those like you. It does certainly seem like it was the best thing in your situation. The problem is that people do stay on them for years and years, and when they try to stop, the detox is intense and long. Subs should, in my opinion, be used short term, and be a part of a total recovery program.

Anyway, good luck to you! You will get there!

I sure do agree! And trust me have first hand experience with it. But I have to say in my experience it really saved my life so I think god for suboxin/subutext. I was a very bad herion addict though and who knows where I would be today without them, especially since I got pregnant right after getting on them.  God things could have turned out so bad for me and my baby, but thanks to the subs giving me my life back well and me working very hard to stay clean.  Now my beautiful baby girl will be 3 in February and my life couldn't be any better.  I have been clean from herion for almost 4 years  but am still on subutext. Thank god I have weened down to about 2mg from 16mg but now I'm stuck again because I just found out that I'm pregnant again.  And it really ***** that's the last thing I ever wanted but it has taken forever to get off of these things. My doctor has been no help in me trying to stop them its crazy to me!

I looked into subs before going ct. If you look at the suboxone site it sure looks great. All the success stories with no mention of the horrors of getting off the stuff. After reading several forums I decided real quick that it wasn't for me. Sub has it's place but it's not for someone taking hydro or oxy for a few years IMO.

I did read that....and its quickly climbing the ladder! But its like watching a car accident...getting ready to happen....and no matter how much you yell and scream for people to move..they just stand there??? Lost a little in translation there, but you get the jist! Trying to think of a way to get addicts to understand that if your ready to be done, if you've finally realized that your life is insanity, then bite the bullet and (i dont want to say quit, cause i know sometimes its not that easy) but switching to another drug doesnt work. The sub w/d were killer...at least they were to me.

I think it boils down to some scary math: the #1 prescribed medication n America in 2013: (drum roll...) hydrocodone. I believe the number was multiple tens of millions of individual prescriptions. Fast forward to January 2014' the New York Times says suboxone is now 41st most commonly prescribed drug.

It does seem like a lot more people are turning to Subs and Meth lately.  I wonder if it might have something to do with the new regulations and restrictions on Hydrocodone.  Maybe it is easier to prescribe Subs or simply refer patients to Meth clinics?  I don't know, just a guess.

No, it's not just you.  I have noticed so many threads about subs and meth and I have to stay away from them because I have no experience with either.
Sub addiction is definitely increasing and I feel so badly for the people who went on them to get off of a pill addiction.
