There is a lot to learn about methadone, and there are many people on here that can help.

Please do this: Educate yourself and your girlfriend by reading on this forum a lot.  A lot. Ask more questions as they come up. There is so much you and your girlfriend need to know.

Frankly, she is in a terrible place, and a lot of suffering, determination, and support is, and will be, in the future to get her completely off methadone.

You both should learn, make decisions, formulate a plan, including aftercare, and execute the plan.  Sounds easy, but it is not.  The first step is knowledge.  That, knowledge, is my best advice.

Sorry no-one has replied to your post yet, but believe me, thare are many. many wonderful people on here who care and will help.

I don't know why in the world yhey would put someone w/a vic addiction in a methadone program, but they do. I only use methadone, in very small amounts, when I am out of roxy's, and for a very short time period...like 5 days max, 1-2 ten mg pills a day.

Anyway, she will go thru hell if she tries to go cold turkey. I wouldn't advise that. Her best chance is to start tapering her dose down in small increments at a time. Depends on how much she's taking now. However, I'm nor sure if a clinic will "allow" her to taper...

Good luck and let us know how she's doing!

Benzodiazepines are a drug which is used by the people to treat anxiety and sleeplessness. It is a remedy for all those people but they don’t know the dangerous effects of this addiction. It can cause forgetfulness, anxiety, depression, heart pounding and much more.

hey mike, stay strong for youre girlfriend youa re doinga  great thing for her, i agree that for a vicodin withdrawal they shouldnt have put her on methadone treatment, probably suboxone treatment would avhe eben a better choice, seeing as it is generally used for milder addictions, but its a little wait to shoulda coulda woulda now. heres the deal though, people can be on emthadone forever, some stay on it for six months, it all depends on how high the dose is, how ready she is tos top taking mainteneace treatments, and how she is doing mentally, going on of it too fast can be a recipe for disaster. she eneds tos tay on it until she feels fully confident in tapering down and geting off. She should also possibly try tapering down to 30mgs or less of methadone and then switch over to suboxone(buprenorphine and naloxone). it is a little less harsh in withdrawal and a little easier to taper off of. that is a good treatment plan, but she will need to slowly taper off of that as well because going off completley can produce bad, long withdrawals lasting upwards of two months. both can be short or long term treatment plans and it fully rides on if there capable of getting off of opiates completely. definitely try adn see it from her side, it is extremely hard to commit to stopping adn getting off of youre treatment because the addiction is soo powerful. now its harder to get off of full agonists like heroin, oxycontin, vicodins, but it is really hard to get off of treatment opiates especially methadone, but also including suboxone. tell her to tkae a look into the suboxone treatment i have been on both and theyc an be very helpful in motivating you into a productive loving partner and member of society. for yorue girlfriends addictin to vicodin, she shouldnt need to be on methadone for too long, maybe a year but everyone is different. suboxone might be a better and easier treatment plan for her. stay strong and supportive like you have, try to understand as much as you can where shes at, and best of luck to youre girlfriend...

Substance like cocaine and morphine are generally used to remove anxiety and create artificial pleasure. Due to uncontrolled use, consumers become substance abuse. Treatment for substance abuse is not an easy task.
