methadone withdrawal

So my husband has been on methadone for 2 years now. He has come down from 90 to 60 but his doctor has not let him come down anymore and has been on 60 for the past year and a bit. My Hubby is only a young lad, but the effeccts of the methadone are making him feel like he's 60. he's always tired and constantly feeling like ****. He has been talking about comming off of methadone for some time now and is very annoyed that his doctor wont let him.

yesturday my hubby has informed me that he stopped taking him methadone 3 days ago and has poured his carries down the drain. He plans on quitting cold turkey. Aware of all the side effects, my husband is very stubborn and is tired of the liquid handcuffs. So far so good... though today he is sleeping most of the time he seems to be ok. I went out and bought some multi vitamins and boost drinks to help him a bit.

is there anyone else who has done this cold turkey before and if so can you help me as to what to expect? i've been reasearching like crazy but feel that i could use more information and or support

please get back to me

thanx

I went c/t off of 25 mgs. and my experience was the exact same as Lisa, two months to fully recover from the physical stuff the worst being the first 3-4 weeks. Please be sure to read the article that Lisa referred to in her journal,it will help you and your husband so much to understand exactly what the both of you are in store for.Methodone w/ds are really rough so it's wonderful that he has you there with him to help see him through.Since he is at 72 hours the w/ds are going to start hitting him real soon.It will get worse before it gets better but IT WILL GET BETTER.Keep posting with any questions or concerns or if you just need to talk. You can pm me anytime.Let him know we're here for him, sometimes it helps so much just to be able to hear from someone who has been there and made it through and is happy living life again.I wish you both all the best.Peace....Kim

wow..I am glad he made this decision. I went cold turkey of 65 mg of that drug you so adequetly described as liquid hancuffs. I can believe the dr. wouldn't let him..but thats here nor there now that he dumped what he had..He will start to feel the effects of w/d very soon..and they will increase. Everyone reacts different, I was very very sick for almost 2 months.with the worse part being the first 3 weeks. It was the hardest thing that I have ever done, But I did it. I don't know how..does he have to work? It's a good thing that he has support from you..That makes alot of difference..My journal has alot of info about methadone and what kinds of things one would need to help w/ds. Congrats to him..Please tell him to take it minute by minute...any other questions feel free to pm (personal message me)..take care Lisa

well I know first hand this is very difficult for both of you. first the dr, they cannot refuse to bring him down, they can suggest, but if the pt is not informed, they feel like thers no choice but to stay up. at this point whats done is done. to just stop is not good, but it can be done, he might need some sleeping aids after awhile, or maybe nyquil, becouse it canget painful, see meth settles in our bones. keep a very close eye on him his bloodpresure could be off also. now was he on it for drugs, pills? coming down will sometimes bring on temptations strong ones, he will need alot of support now and prays, hes got mine, I would look into even suboxen, or a clinic that offers a rapid detox, he doesnt need to know just in case you need the info, meth withdrawels can be bad i wish he knew that they couldnt refuse to detox him before he and you could have put your foot down or found another dr. please keep me posted and ? im herel

check out the thomas recipe in the health pages..top right corner.. ive heard it works wonders for cold turkey wd.  I don't think you should quit ct from methadone though.  I think, from what ive read here, it is very dangerous.  Check out the other forums, they may help too
