methadone withdrawel

It's been four days cold turkey.  Six months on, reduced from 30mg; then down to ten, then five, then four, then two and one-half, then one and a quarter mg, then zero.  I'm tired and I don't know if it's from the chemo i had , but the tiredness started five weeks after chemo, and when I started reduction.  Nerves, ehaustion, body aches, toilet problems, sneezing, drippy nose, trembling hands, can't make it through the day.  How long did it take for you's, Any foods I should stay away from, any I should be taking. I'm taking vitamins and protein shakes.  Help me please - it's my main goal in life to get off and stay off!

Thanks gnarly

Hey Copper ...sleep is always a problem coming off this stuff you can try some melatonin if you take it the room needs to be completely dark for it to work also vlararin root can be helpful ..some find 2 benadrill pills dose the trick....for me a really hot bath as hot as you can stand it even if your only in it for 5 or 10 min get out go and lay on top of the covers in bed dry off from there and then just let yourself air dry and cool down by the time your cool your usually relaxed enough for sleep...the bath thing worked best for me but early on I was trying combinations of the above 3 ....its just ruff going your lucky to get a nap...its not a bad idea to rent some movies to give you something to do when you cant sleep...try not to get discouraged it will go away with time...how you feeling besides the know sleep ?? anyways hang in there you will get threw this keep posting for support we all want to see you succeed good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

Today is day five, not much sleep last night, so I got a two hour nap after work. When I woke up I was scared, about what I don't know.  That went away and I'm still battling.  Thanks for the help  - God bless you all.

Coming off methadone is a challenge nomatter what - I cannot imagine that detox with chemo added to it - You are obviously a very strong person and you will get through this.
You might want to avoid red meat as it is said to possibly intensify pain at this time.  You can also get injectable B-12 (my fiance and I ordered a year supply - one shot per month - for $15 from Canada and we received it pretty quick) It helps alot with energy.  There is a powdered supplement of calcium and magnesium that you mix with hot water and drink like a hot tea...it is called CalMag or NaturalCalm - it works great.
If you would like to check my journal entries, I wrote our 'recipe' for detoxing from methadone - These things really helped us and I am sure they can help you as well.  Everything that we used was all natural -
Continue to post - The people here are awesome...there is a lot of support, knowledge and encouragement here that will help you get through this.
Best of luck to you -
Peace

Thanks for the advice.  The exhaustion... wasnt there five weeks after chemo - so I'm putting that on the back burner for now.  It started when I started reducung my methadone.  I appreciate your help, you're sn inspiration.  Now all I have to do is hide my strife from work. When I found out I had lymphoma,  I went through Chapter 13 because I was supposed to die. I made it with support from co-workers, family, friends and lots of prayer ;and now I need to be walked through this situation.  It's not as bad as chemo (six months in the bed/hospital), but I need someone to sorta 'hold my hand'  Thanks for replying - I check this site every hour I'm not at work.  Thanks!

HI......You have a lot going on with chemo and this at the same time...I dont know how much of this is from chemo ....but I can tell you this it takes a wile to recover from methadone
I dont think these doctors would prescribe it if they had any idea how hard it was to get off
you tapered like I did I took it down to 1ml I couldn't measure less with the syringe I had
you dident say how many days you have been off....for me the first 2 weeks where hard had a clot of physical symptoms...the next 2 weeks I was just sick...shakey  a major energy crash and no sleep the following month I just sorta got a little better but still wasn't sleeping and again the energy crash was debilitating....it was around 90 days out that finely I started to get better each week seamed better then the previous still had a ways to go but it was looking up...I wish I could tell you this would be over quickly but for most its a grind to get off the stuff...I have helped others and this is prity typical of how it goes...one thing you can do is add liquid B-complex in the morning ...it helps a little with the afternoon energy crash...just know there is nothing wrong with you its just the way it is coming off methadone....keep drinking the whey protein shakes 2 a day..as much as its  hard try and get out for a walk every day even if its just around the block you can build up to more exercise as you go along...try not to get discouraged you will get well
its just going to take some time but in the end it is so so worth it hang in there keep posting for support good luck and God bless........Gnarly
