How many mgs of methadone are you coming off of? I don't know too much about tramadol but I have went through w/ds from methadone.I don't believe the tramadol would help much if at all and tramadol is also addictive and comes with it's own nasty w/ds.

I tried methadone for wd's, and only found out I was postponing  the inevitable ugly wd. I still think it is a much better choice than, doing opiates. supposedly  it does not hurt your body like the hydrocodone pills and oxyies do.......  but did notice a few times it still had ugly wds.

best to wean yourself down then just go cold turkey

tramadol will not help methadone wd symptoms, how much are you taking?

It's a bad idea to take that drug ultram as it can get you hooked in a different way. I would rather see a really suffering methadone addict take darvon plain if it's that bad. That was given to me in a detox setting once and worked well and was easy to stop. all the best

Dumb idea just mixing addictiions.
Peace

Interesting post re Darvon ... but to give you the quick answer to your question -- yes. Whether it will help is another matter. You're using Methadone to step down from oxy or something, I assume ... taking Tramadol is stepping down from Methadone, if it works. Same goes for codeine.

I'd do it )I'm going to), but I'm not advising you to do so. I'm answering the question -- yes, but do your homework. Your choice.

As far as the poster who wrote "just go c/t," that's great if you can do it, no argument on that. I've read a lot of posts about Methadone and Suboxone here, and the very large majority in this club (especially re Methadone) regret the day they signed the form -- it scared me enough to not consider it (that, and the lining up in a drug store like some outcast from society, which I may very well be, but that description certainly doesn't apply to most. Oh. And you can be cut off around these parts if your tox screen shows benzo action -- I have a modest script for them, and  ... enough about me.) ... well, I DID sign the form, but then I just lay on the floor for a week instead.

Watch this thread -- lots of people who've probably given it a go, and that's what you need to see.

Best of Luck.

Tramadol is not a step down Kevin its a step sideways and it is not good advice to use this drug it plays around too much with your serotonin levels and is highly addicting.Codine on the other hand could work as a step down

i went ct off a 250mg methadone habit almost 5 yrs ago, after my second week of ct at home i started having seizures and other problems, in the er i was given iv fluids, when i was stable enough to leave the er sent me to an inpatient detox where i was given iv morphine, for 3 weeks i could not eat or walk, i continued to throw up green bile even though i was on iv fluids, once i could eat they gave me roxies for a week, once i was able to walk after physical therapy they gave me darvon for a week, oh i forgot to mention i also took clonidine..........opiate wd is different for everyone, i was 28 when all this happened, but i can say that there were times when i have detoxed at home ct without any problems,, the best thing anyone can do that is facing opiate wd is to seek help, dont do it alone, if you cannot afford detox, find an na meeting, ask around, someone at the meeting can direct you to a free facility, even if you find the perfect taper plan, what can we do to make sure we do not return to using which is an addicts greatest challange, i do wish you luck, methadone like other matience drugs can be terribly difficult to walk away from
i am a big fan of using clonidine and darvon as a detox tool, but if used outside a facility they can become just as addicting

Goat is right about that. I think Ultram is a bad idea for just about anything but drugs like darvon and clonidine can really help somebody coming off long term methadone, if used properly like in a medical setting. The most important thing is when you start to feel better don't take any dope so you don't get hooked again and have to go back on methadone.

To: anyone who will listen
Me and my fiance are detoxing a 30 day detox at that i started at 140mg and he started at170mg he is at 70 now and i am at 60 the closer the end gets the more scary it is are doctor prescrbed us clonedine for the withdraws she said it helps naseua, irritability, restlessness, hotand colds, and to help you think clearly. You can also stay on it long after  you take your last dose of methadone until u feel all withdraw is over. and this drug is not addictive. other then this you may wanna take a light sleeping pill only if you have troubles sleeping I hope this info helps everyone becuase i know at times like these we all need to know there are people going through the same things that we are not alone in this struggle GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE INCLUDING MYSELF -SARA
