methadone

I first wanted to thank everyone for there help and support. I've been on Methadone for 1 1/2, started tapering 2 mo. ago. I am having a hard time with being on methadone, I feel like I traded 1 demon for another, and I just want off of it! I am having a really lousy day today, I have absolutely no energy, I am extremely nauseated and everything hurts all over. People tell me that I shouldn't be feeling so crappy on just tapering 2mg/2wk. But I truly feel like hell. I just want off this crap. I'm going to go talk to my Family Doctor tomorrow. Has anyone had any experience with rapid detox? I'm honestly thinking about this route or CT and suck it up for 90 days, I just want to get on with my life. I hate being chained to this drug! I was totally lied to when I started the program. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks everyone that has already helped.

First off thanks everyone for your support and advice. I have gone from 100mg. meth down to 91 mg. as of today, I just didn't expect to feel this way. It's very frustrating. I am currently takeing, B-12, B-6, Biotin, Magnesium, Potassium, iron. Started taking Motrin today & hot baths w/epson salt, thanks it helps alot. I will go get the vitamin C, and amino acids when I get payed & check w/doc, on thursday. I take firocet only if nothing else helps, atleast once a wk. 1 tab/every 4 hours until headache subsides. This is how they are prescribed, I don't take them on a daily basis due to rebound headaches. I do have several health problems & am on 15 meds/day. Diabetic (juvenile), high BP, tachycardia, deprresion, anxiety disorder (take xanax 3x/day), mood disorder, fibromyalgia, COPD, asthma. I see a therapist every 2 weeks,go to one on one drug counseling, see a shrink. I know the fibro adds to the WD. I let everyone know what my Dr. suggests after my appoint. this evening. Thanks again for all the support it really lifts my spirits and gives me hope. Trying to get into a more positive frame of mind, I CAN DO THIS AND WILL. One of my big faults is I'm always looking for an easy answer, thats where the drugs came in handy. I know there is no easy way out, but I gotta hang in there, I will not let myself drown this time.

HI Fluffy just hang in there just because your taper isent going well now dosent meen it going to stay that way....when you hit this king of withdrawals I would call them ''roadblocks'' you just have to get past them and things will smooth out for you it not a constant withdrawal coming off methadone but rather a series od going in and out of them and yes a few more 'roadblocks'' in your path YOU CAN DO THIS.....it just takes determination and perseverance in a few days you should be feeling a lot better try the vitamins I told you about I found those after months of research on the internet and they work just give it a few days to get into your system
other then that I just want to encourage you to go threw with this it is so so worth it in the end
BTW rapid detox rarey works for methadone due to the long 1/2 life and you cant get around the post withdrawal.......Gnarly

Do you take a multi-vitamin or some B vitamins? They have helped me a lot in the energy area. The treadmill is my #1 help - besides prayer - but I try to talk myself out of it every day.

I hope things get better and better and better. Praying for you. David

Hey fluff. Sorry  I don't remember your other posts well, I doin a taper here from the blue ox. I here ya, way down deep on not feeling well. Gotta agree with the above on the detox centers? Unless you personally know people who recommend their procedure that worked for them. I think for what they charge they should have to do the withdrawals for me! I'm probably incorrect but I think, say my tolerance is going up 2mg, per week and taperin at the same rate that's like 4mg's of misery. So your doin almost twice as good as you thought. Don't remember what  your quittin by takin the done, but those that know swear it's worse than others? I don't know for sure, my doctor took me from around 80mg's of methadose to 160 mgs of oxy with breakthru's for pain. Wow, if I survive this I'll have a valuable story to tell my children or grandkids that would pick this habit up, just to party. I didn't have a clue what quitting would be like. Geez, However I'm proud of you for your choice and effort, very very few brag about how easy this is. Good luck

Hey Fluffy~  I just received IBK's message. I don't recommend rapid detox either...How many mgs of Methadone are you taking now?

For pain try hot baths with Epsom salt and Motrin 800mg 3x perday.  Get some good multi vits with cal/mag/potassium. Take extra Vit B12,B6,and C. Take iron, also.   Also, L-lysine and L-tyrosine are great amino acids.

Are you in otherwise good health?  If you sip on Pepsi, that helps nausea. Also, peppermint tea is helpful. Do you take Fioricet on a daily basis?

I'm sorry you feel so rotten!

Hi Hun,

I don't know who told you that you shouldn't be feeling like this. Tapering is hard and although you are tapering a relatively small amount--your body feels it. For me, tapering was impossible. The constant withdrawal was like torture for me. I don't know what mg you are currently at so I don't know if it would be wise to jump at this point. If you are still at a high dose, jumping off is going to be very hard. Additionally, if you have not participated in a solid aftercare program and have begun to deal with the core issues, you are setting yourself up for a relapse.

I do not recommend the rapid detox at all. It is medically dangerous and has a low success rate, not to mention the cost.

I think speaking with your doctor is a good idea. Before you do anything else, try that. He may be able to suggest some things to ease the discomfort. Also, there are natural supplements you can help to help as well. I am not the vitamin, supplement type so I do not know what to suggest. However, I do know someone who can help you with that and I will contact her. Hang in there please, it won't be long before you have your life back!!!

Keep posting and letting us know how you are doing.
