methadone?

As you all may know,I have a tramadol and percocet problem,Ive done some researching and found many are helped by methadone,I do know my pain mgt. center presribes this to quite a few people.I dont know if I should talk to the pain mgt. center or my regular family doctor about this,although I seriously doubt a Summit Medical doctor would prescribe methadone! Does this drug take away the cravings for tramadol and percocet or just "transfer" the addiction? Everything I have read about methadone says it does not provide a high or state of well being like the ones I currently take.but they say methadone is used illegally and abused.If it doesnt provide any high,why would people risk buying it illegally?However some people say it is very long acting similar to any opiate drug.Thanks for the advice,this site is very helpful.

Trust me, you DO NOT want to get on Methadone.  When I first started I heard the same things you did.  But when I started using, I found it was the best high I had ever had.  It was also the most horrific withdrawals I ever had.  It took 21 days just to sleep more than 1-2 hours a night.  Had the runs for 2 1/2 months and my energy didn't start to come back until 3 months later.
Take it from me, Methadone is a monster!!!

Research! Search. Ask. It's also extremely addictive. My son in law is on it now due to nothing else working for him. He says he doesn't feel like he is high, just not aware of the pain so much. But I am worried. He is due for surgery soon. After that he will have to get off of the methadone. His wife is already panicked about it. She feels it will be a tough road. I hope not.

From what i have heared its like jumping from the frying pan into the fire . There are many that feel that methadone should not be used to detox  pain meds . I have never taken it for me It would not be my chioce. I suggest you do lots or research about all of your options . good Luck
