methodone addiction and tapering

I have been addicted to methodone for two years. Ive never taken more than 50mgs a day. For a year I have been trying to taper off. I started at about 40mgs a day and i would get it down then get fead up with it and want the high. Now i am down to 20-25mg a day. It has been very hard for me because i want off but i want the high sometimes too. My question is what is the best way for me to finish my taper and what can help?? It seems like i get so angry with people around me because of this WHAT tO Do??

There's a member here by the name of Gnarly1 that has over a year clean from methadone. He was taking 160mgs if I remember right. He will be able to help you with the tapering. I'm sure he will notice your post and reply. I'll keep an eye on your post and if he doesn't respond I will will message him.
I can tell you that you have to want to get and stay off in order to be successful. You have to learn to hate the high. A member of the forum always said, "your desire to get clean has to be stronger than your desire to use". Until your desire to get clean is stronger than your desire for the high you have a long road ahead of you. For many it takes hitting their rock bottom before they quit. But if you want to get clean bad enough you don't have to hit a rock bottom. Some rock bottoms are jail, over dose, losing a house, a car, friends, or even their life.
I can tell you that life is so much more enjoyable being clean than it is being high living in a fog all the time. We can help you with the tools on how to get and stay clean but can't do it for you. It can be one heck of a fight but it so worth it in the end.
One thing you should start doing right away is to hit up some NA meetings. They may give you the added motivation you need to get and stay clean. Also be sure to post here for support. You will see from reading posts that life is so much better clean and not having to rely on an opiate each day to keep from getting sick.

HI Candi....well on one hand it sounds like your feed up with being dependent on an opiate
but on the other hand you still desire the high....to do this you got to want it bad....real bad
methadone is ruff to get off of...I agree with Brian your desire to get clean has to be greater then your desire to get high or this just wont work...a lot of people have no problems b/4 they hit 20 25 mg tapering....thats where it is the hardest 25 and below your going to need a positive attitude and some perseverance to do this.....I have helped people off this stuff
your doing well coming down from 50mg....the thing with methadone is a slow taper wins the race...I know a great taper it was givin to me by a neo/natal nurse that brings babys off heroin methadone oxy ext...we no longer post them in the open forum but if you like I can send it to you threw the messenger ....addiction is a desiese that needs to be treated
N/A has a good program so does A/A if you prefer one on one consloing there are substance abuse conslors and addiction therapists it would be a big help if you could get involved with treating the addiction...we need to change the very way we think to truly live in recovery....I can help you get off methadone but its going to take work on your part
once you go down in dose you cant yo/yo your dose back up one day then down the next you need to stick to the taper for it to work the reason im bringing this up is your saying your dose is between 20 and 25 once your we begin doing this and your at 20mg you cant take 25 the next day because you dont feel well you have to tuff it out if your ever going to get off this stuff...I tapered off 150ml and to say the least it was difficult
but it is doable with some discipline you came to a good place for help that a start it shows you have the desire to get clean...we can start any time your ready I will wait to here back from you we all want to see you succeed good luck and God bless....Gnarly
