Yes something didn't sound right about that morphine/hospital story. Bubba, I don't understand how you eneded up on methadone if you mainly liked benzos &booze?

i am part of the 10% that got addicted.  i got addicted to methadone and am currently going to the methadone clinic but am down to 20mg and willb e donw in a month. i am not trying to be rude but i agree with the comment the person made about a non addict going home and shoudl be fine.  a week and you were addicted?  im sorry but i do find that hard to beleive.  hard for one that you were given such a high dose.  usually you woyuld only take that and also without gettign sick if you already had a high tolerance.  not saying that you are, but it does seem iffy.  i once took narcotics for a month and thank god was lucky to quit then. but evenn if you were addicted from 8days your withdrawals really shoudln't be that bad.

Mr Lucky thats strange i actualy hated opiods when i used to take them prior to methadone, made me nausated etc etc, and well i never got no Euphoria of them, then i got hold of methadone, at first i hated that too then i vomited after that i felt euphoria much like a  H addict would i hear after you vomit...and well months turned into years and here i am dependant on it.... btw i am still no wrapped in opiods, my Main DOC was benzo's alchol belive it or not....sometimes i wonder though it alot is psychological too, do i need it ? etc etc only thing positive re opiods unlike benzo's/ alchol  they dont scatter your brain, i was thinking today i really am just in a habbit unless of course its doing more than i think.

Some people could never get addicted to narcotics. Most people get a sick feeling from them. I read once that only 10% of people who take opiates like them or can get addicted to them. Most people don't like them are are very glad to stop taking them. I wish I were one but that fruitless.

From what I see my wife can take pain meds until she don't need them any longer and just stop no negative consequences whatsoever. Worried that is why I am surprised as I have used both at home as well as many other opiates as kicker meds as I am sure we all have I basically dosed by feeling I don't understand what kills some don't kill the other a girlfriend I had years ago overdosed on very few opiates. Three years ago my wife's 14 year old nephew left here looking normal and never woke up again the next morning autopsy said ovverdose of oxycontin and soma. Hope not from here. Never even gave thaty a second thought until know. Scares me now........ I don't know whether to consider myself blessed lucky or just plain stupid as well as ingnorant about the whole thing.

That's true but what we don't know is if the poster is an addict and if so, if the doctors knew. Regardless, it's no excuse for releasing you with nothing. A non addcit could take morphine for a week and just walk away in most cases.

Oral dosages of morphine is different than IV doses you get in the hospital...oral dosages are much less potent than IV morphine thru the veins

mike, don't be embarrassed. your body built up a tolerance to the drugs. i weigh 120 pounds and on any given night at work i could easily inject 300-400mg of demerol, 60-90mg of morphine and 16-20mg of dilaudid. i am still amazed that i'm still alive. i don't ever want to go down that path again. talk about withdrawal hell. i lived through it and hope i never have to feel like that again.

I dont know the exact dosage they give me post op as I have always had the black box and it gives it automatically and gets set up or down by post op nurse. I do know the dosage I have used at home iv as well as oral ir and I am to embarrased to say it. I cannot believe I am alive considering what you say is the normal dosage. It tells me I am very lucky.

2-4 mg, but up to 10 mg if the patient has a tolerence, given intravenously post op is the normal dose every 2- 4 hours...that is a bit excessive and I would think that 15 mg hourly for 8 days would kill most people...I would consider myself lucky to be alive!

WHat the hell was that about. To just kick you out to go home with no freaking detox. I guess they don't think of the addiction part and it is a nasty thing. I hope it is not to bad as I don't see from your post you are a long time user. Mike
