If possible your daughter can try to wean herself by slowly tapering the amount she uses each day. Some people find that hard to do because it requires a lot of discipline to continue. Some have given their pills to someone to hold and dole out the day's supply. How fast or slow is really up to her.

You can also just go cold turkey. It really is a question of pulling the band aide off rapidly or slowly.

Tell her not to be afraid of withdrawal. It is like a case of the flu in terms of symptoms. Symptoms can include: stomach cramps, chills, sweats, diarrhea, vomiting, muscular restlessness usually in the legs especially at night, anxiety, and depression. This all will pass. Usually by 10 days people are feeling better. The 3rd or 4th day are the worst and then day by day she will feel better.

In the meantime introduce her to this online community. There are lots of wonderful people who will support her every step of the way. Have her read posts and post herself. She is not alone with this. Everything she feels will be normal and predictable.
