Definitely go and get a lawyer as the posters above mentioned if you haven't yet. You can go in and talk to one for free I believe. I don't think there are any fees until you decide if you want them to take your case. With two charges I wouldn't walk into a courthouse without one. A lawyer will know what you will need to do to hopefully avoid serving time.
There have been others on here that were arrested with a similar charge. The couple that I read got probation, fines and community service. But that's only a couple cases. There are so many variables involved. One of those variables could be a simple as what kind of day the judge is having. You really need to get a lawyer. The legal system keeps cracking down harder and harder when there are narcotics involved.
Sorry to hear of the legal trouble. But am glad to hear your sober today. Congrats and you should be proud. Hopefully the fact you have never been in trouble and you have turned your life around will help you out. Eye gave the best advice of speaking to an attorney and NOT making statements to the law without said attorney present. You could speculate until your crazy about what could happen but that wont be useful to you. Best i can say is continue to embrace your sobriety and stay out of any trouble. I know it may not sound like the correct thing to say but be thankful you had a run in with the law instead of the morgue. Do you count getting caught as a blessing in disguise? Would you still be using if you hadnt gotten caught?
That's a question I'd be asking a lawyer. Have you consulted one yet? I had an arrest about 7 years ago due to pain killers. I spent about 2 hours sitting in the drunk tank, bonded out, got a lawyer who handled everything. I didn't even go to court. Walked away with 6 months probation. You'd think I would have quit after that wouldn't you? Nope, I still had another six and half years left before that happened.
Best advice you'll get here is talk to a lawyer, and do not talk to the police or make any statements without a lawyer present. The police are not your friend in this matter.
I'm sorry I'm not too familiar with court proceedings, but I DO think that you being clean and working could really help in your favor of convincing a judge your trying to be resposible now. It might get you probation, just a guess? Good Luck, glad your clean and taking responsibility for yourself:)
