There's a good detox doc on Long Island. Supposed to be well known up and down the East Coast....Dr. Robert Goldstein, 516-935-1312. He does outpatient detox and inpatient I think...Whatever you do, stay away from EARS. It's supposed to be for detox for it's a hellhole. There's also Seacrest on LI and I've heard good things about South Oaks.
Just from personal experience...if the person is willing to go into a hospital for treatment I think that is better. I was so desperate I went for outpatient rehab thinking that would be easier for my brother. No luck. Doc has been great, therepist he recommended I thought was good....but it's not working. I'd also recommend that you take care of you and get to an ALANON meeting....should take my own advice because watching this is killing me.

The two best that I've been too are in P.A .(I've only been to one's in PA)
Caron foundation and Cove Forge both were really great programs. Caron is more expensive but well worth it if you have it.
Good luck, the only way to get an adult to treatment w/o consent is to say there in danger of hurting themselfs or others. that can be hard. It can also be a waste of money and time if "their" not ready. In saying that someone most always comes away with more knowledge on recovery that in the long run may help.
best wishes for you and your friend
I do not think you can get someone admitted into an alcohol /drug rehab unwillingly. You can get them "comitted" to a psych ward for a few days (72 hours at best) IF they are suicidal and a danger to themselves and others.
But, if you get them to agree to go to rehab, I know of 3 great one in NY. I personally know quite a few people who have gone on to be and stay clean and sober after visiting these places.
Arms Acres in upstate NY
Veritas Villas in upstate NY
South Oaks in Long Islnad NY
and there's always Phoenix House with locations in NY and Florida on the East Coast.
If you're looking to detox them before they go into treatment, make sure they show up at the hospital, any hospital, DRUNK or HIGH, visibly so, or they will turn you away. In AA when someone wsa ready to detox we would actually get them drunk enough. There are usually waiting lists but if you're drunk when you get there, they cannot by law let you leave......
