This comment really goes out to all of you on this site.I've noticed alot of you out there are still in your teens with problems that no one of any age or wisdom should have to go through and it breaks my heart to hear your stories and suffering.I think we lost ourselves in a world that has no patience for the confused or lonely straggler.I'm 39 and have been on some kind of drug since I was 15.When I look back I get so angry for all the time I wasted. My son is 18 and he is such a good kid and I've never lied to him about my addiction, and he always says "don't worry momI love you and your a good mother".But I remember when he was only 7yrs old and I woke up on the floor with him sleeping over me because I had passed out after taking too much Soma and I will never forgive myself because no matter what he says, I know I failed him that day.And he sees the struggle I go through daily. We always talk about life and the future and I see him at 30 or 40 and he is good and kind and I just want him to be happy and I know he will be.I just wish I could go back in time and be a better mother whocan go places and not tell him  mommy was too sick to get out of bed that day. So,I hope all of you can find your way.And especially you younger ones please know the "dark romance" dies, dies slow then you wake up and 20 years have passed that you never get back.I don't know you but I do because I am you and you are me.So,please stop and really think where you want to be in 1,2,3 or even 20 years and be there,God's speed. Love L.L.

i would recommend a  suboxone  taper plan, before going back to methadone any time..if you have been off the methadone for this long already, you might do well with a short term taper with suboxone to get you through the rest of the methadone withdrawals and it will also help your depression..with a short term taper on suboxone you wouldnt be sick, no more withdrawals and you would only have to stay on it for a short amount of time to get you to the end of the methadone WD's, of course this is just a suggestion, there are quite a few people who have done it succesfully this way. also i would start an antidepressant as soon as you can...is your depression "life threatening"?

Sorry to hear about your depression but i am facing the same type of situation so i can be very emphatic. I am battling a herion addiction and have become very depressed off a week of not using. I also suffer from bipolar disorder but now it seems like i am always down, never in a state of mania. Just take every day one at a time and when having your negative thoughts and feelings direct that wasted engery into something good. Think positivly and cearly about everything you are doing throuought the day. IT WILL GET BETTER WITH TIME. or if it persists talk to you doctor or whoever about a medication. Goodluck i hope i could serve as some time of help, AND REMEMBER YOUR NOT ALONE.

I have only been off since Dec.20,2007 I walked away at 14mg.I may go back to finish completely. I tried once before in 2002 at 16mg.then I moved to another state and they said I had to start at 50mg. I couldn't understand why because I had come so far from 80mg. at the last clinic in 2002 (I went "cold turkey" @ 16mg but went back after 29 days due to depression, and started at same 16 mg).The new clinic had my records from last clinic to show my dose.So now I just feel trapped and I'm just so sick of this.I can deal with the physical stuff, but the mental is so bad and the sleeplessness just makes it worse.I can give others advice "till the cows come home",but I can't find any relief anymore,I thought this was behind me finally but I thought wrong. Thank you for your interest Clamity2 and everyone who responded.

it may or may not pass...did you have any depression before your addiction? and how long have you been depressed? depression is a very normal part of addiction. i too am off methadone, but am taking suboxone, i still suffered life threatening depression, i am on cymbalta..it is the only one to give me any relief yet, it can also help with pain if you are experiencing any pain issues, i have fibromyalgia so this is why my doctor recommended cymbalta for me...but of course you must speak to your doctor about this as everyone is different when it comes to what will work for you.

I know some have used them for a season. I would go to the local health foods store and talk to them about things for mood support. L-Tyrosine, SamE 400mg, 5 HTP all can be very useful. Chocolate, very dark, helps some too. Go this route before you take anti-depressants. That's my opinion.
