need tapering advice!

by trying2quit, Aug 04, 2009 03:35PM
Hello....I have been using hydrocodone 10-325's for the past eight years. I was also taking 6mgs of xanax per day but luckily got that under control with a doctor-did a taper and am now taking a very low dose of clonazapam for anxiety. I dropped down to 7,5mgs 4 times per day last month and put myself on 5mgs four times per day this month. This past weekend I decided to taper off completely and dropped down to three 5mg pills for the past three days and today took two 5mgs and one 2.5mg. I saw a good post on shaving 1-2mgs off the pills every four to five days as a tapering method and think I will try that. I have a nine year old daughter and a husband, a great family and good friends. Not one person from friends, family or work know about my addiction and what I am going through so I have to pretend like things are normal even though I feel sad, restless, tired, achey (achy) and anxious. It would be great to have some other people for support! Please let me know if you have any advice or just want to drop me a note please!!! Thx

Ever consider going to meetings or group therapy? People that try to battle this addiction alone usually have a much harder time with it. I know I did until my secret was let out. Now my support system seems endless.

I'm doing it now, just go slow. I was taking both perc and vic, cut out the vic first, all of it and then have been lowering the perc every couple of days. The first days were pretty lousy (really nauseous) but I'm feeling pretty okay right now. It's more a psychological struggle right now.

Hang in there. And keep talking!

Hey thanks to you and Ga Guy for replying...really appreciate it. I have thought about going to group...just not sure about it. For me its WAY more of a psychological struggle now to....I feel like I am anxious and just not in tune with things...weird. I also feel really mentally exhausted. How are you tapering down your percs? How many and how long were you taking them? Do you think we will have the horrible physical effects once we completely stop the meds? Sorry for all the ?'s-   Seems like from what I have read that the physical effects come after the medication is out of  the body but it would also make sense that they would happen with less medication as well. Addiction is terrible....would not wish it on anyone. thx again.
