needs advice desperatly

by jayden64, Dec 17, 2007 06:29PM
I'm very concerned for my cousin. She is 4 months pregnant. She has been snorting about 20mg of oxycotin a day. She said she had been doing this for about a year now, and she wants to quit very bad not only for her but for her unborn baby as well. After all of the horror stories she has heard about withdrawls and loosing the baby she doesnt know what she should do. I want to help her out as much as i can but i also dont know what she should do. She wants to wean herself off quickly and she wants to be off with in the next month. But will that harm the baby? If she gets off of the meds a couple months before the baby is born will the baby still go threw with drawls after its born? and even if she is off the meds when the baby is born will they take the baby away from her? Please give us some advise as to what she should do......

I really think she needs to be open and honest with her Dr. I think it's way to risky to just stop taking those med's and it's certainly way to risky to be taking them period. I really think she's gonna need medical help with this....that's just my opinion....I'm sure you'll get several replies so keep checking your post ok.

I think dk is right, she should tell her doc, if she really wants to stop and he helps her do it, the state will not take the child but if she does not try to stop and they find out they will take the baby at birth. she should just be honest with him or her, and do what they tell her. plus its not really safe to play around with the health of the baby.

Withdrawals can be sever in some people. It is never good to put the baby at risk. She needs to level with her OBGYN. A little ones safety is very important.

I dont think she can do this quickly, but if she can she should go to a hospital and detox. They wont take the baby away from her but they will drug test her as long as shes pregnant and they might put her in an outpatient program to make sure shes clean through the whole pregnancy. I have a friend that went through this and when she tested positive for opiates they forced her into detox then a 28 day program then outpatient through the pregnancy. As soon as she had the child and they stopped testing her she started again !!!!! Go figure all that work to get clean ( that people would die for ) an BAM, thrown right out the window. She had no intention on stayin clean !!!! What a sin.
