negative drug test

negative drug test

My kid (he is 27) admitted several months ago to using heroin. He trys to tell us he is off of it but I do not think he is. He still hangs out with the drug dealer who gave him the drugs. His spending habits are nuts again, when it comes to pulling cash out of his accounts. He is once again always short on money. Our daughter told us he came in all jittery while we were away.

We have drug tested him 4 times and again today. The urine test always comes up negative. We dont know how to prove it. Oh and I know, he is an adult, but he is still our kid.

hi and welcome to MH. when someone stops using and abusing drugs they need to change their lifestyle. the people, places and things that were associated with their use. otherwise they will find themselves right back in the same spot. if he just says he stopped and hasnt taken any steps to change his lifestyle that isnt a good sign.
relapse is very real and can happen so easy. to become a recovering addict and not an active one requires work and endurance. the saying is once and addict always an addict. he needs to be involved with aftercare, this could include 1 or the more the better of counseling with therapist, addiction specialist,na/aa,support groups, psychologist, church.addiction usually happens from response to emotional pain, wounds and scars that have been inflicted in our lives and as we use those feelings get suppressed and pushed down deep into the mind, soul, emotions, heart. the aftercare will cause those demons to be faced and help them be dealt with.
as far as the urine test, does he go into the bathroom by himself? he is a grown man, yes he is your son my point is if he closes the door he could be using someone elses urine or could be diluting. if you know what he looked like when he used and see the same signs your are probably right about his use.
there are kits you can buy that need to be sent away and they can tell if they are diluted if the urine is the right temperature. they are more advanced.
i know what its like to live with an addict, my husband and son are both recovering by the grace and mercy of GOD.have you been to counseling . check out alanon.
i hope this helps some
