Is this medication a narcotic and does it effect urinalysis tests?

You should be just fine taking it especially since it's prescribed. They won't look for that because it's not a controlled substance. Neurontin can work great for sciatic pain so hopefully it helps you get some relief.

Please make sure to let them know you're taking neurontin when you go for your drug test. My foster child is in juvenile drug court and just "failed" a drug test for amphetamines, which he denied taking; when they further analyzed the sample, it was 2 ingredients in DayQuil I had given him for a cold that caused a false positive. He was treated as "guilty until proven innocent" so please let them know just in case so you don't go through a similar situation.

Thank you for educating me.  It's a medication I was prescribed prior to entering "Drug Court".  I was also prescribed oxycodone, which I discontinued because the program doesn't allow any narcotics or alcohol.  For my sciatica, they allow me to take tramadol which works ok, but at times the pain is so great and I was wondering could I take the  Neurontin and be ok when they administer a urinalysis which they do 3 to 5 times a week.

No, it is not a narcotic and most drug tests do not test for it. It is however an anti-seizure med that acts on the brain and  I would greatly caution you from taking this med when it is not prescribed to you.
