have u asked the clinic or doctor u get ur methadone from to help u taper off?
I have never gotten off methadone/or been addicted to it but I know it involves a slow taper.  I am not thinking substituting hydros is the answer but not sure of ur plan?
What is/was u dose of emthadone and how long have u been off of it?
R u taking both hydro and methadone now?
How much all together are u taking each day if taking both or how much hydro each day?
There is a great article in the health pages on methadone withdrawal and I think it would help u to read and learn all u could...and seek support to help u thru this

keep posting//lots of support here  (:

HI ....good to see you post back....well your system will work but it dose have the danger of getting hooked back on the vics again...methadone is a monster to withdrawal from and the post withdrawal last a wile...I would rather see you do a slow taper off the methadone cuting the pill into 1/4s and doing it that way....less chance of cross addiction ...but your way will work....just know methadone post withdrawal can last a couple of months so you need to start tapering off the vics right away your only postponing the inevitable..expect to feel the physical side effects of the methadone for around 2 weeks then the folowing 2 week theirs an energy crash that is debilitating in itself....it hard to say how long yours will last it dosent sound like you where on the methadone long or on a high dose that will work in your favor
but I know several people that where at 30mg and went threw some uncomfortable withdrawals...there is no get out of jail free card here eventually your going to face withdrawals even tapering off the vics....but it is the post methadone that you will feel the most...I wish I had better news for you but many people find them selfs in the grip of methadone only to regret ever taking it...concentrate now on getting off the vics b/4 they become a problem....dont wait to feel better from the methadone you will get addicted to the vics long b/4 that will happen you just need to get off everything as soon as you can so your brain can go threw the withdrawal process and you can start to heal that wont happen until you quit putting narcotics in your body the sooner your clean the better keep posting for support we will walk you threw this thing...also aftercare is very important to long term success both A/A and N/A are free if thats not a good fit for you try an addiction therapist or a substance abuse conslor but plug into something addiction dose not just go away just because we detoxed it is something you will have to work on it will be a work in progress the rest of your life...also God dident forget about you he is waiting for you with open arms you need to pull close to him he will help you get threw this...I couldn't have done it without God....good luck and God bless....Gnarly

i really do appreciate you taking time out to write me and i do not want to get hooked on vics again i just thought the w/d would be less but i do remember they were  very awful i guess im just looking for an easy way out of a very hard situation i got myself into. i do appreciate this site and i do not know how i found it because i am terrible at computers but im glad i found it!    i do believe having a sponsor or counselor would only help me so i would not  be so very alone with this dark monster. i just dont like having this addiction and being alone in it so i want to thank you so much for your concern....But i dont understand what you mean when you say energy crash will i be able to sleep or will i have anxiety and not able to sleep because i cant stand at all the anxiety it drives me CRAZY!!!!!  and what do you mean physical side??? i dont mean to be stupid i just dont know.  Thank you so much..

HI Mia....when you detox from any narcotics sleep is usually a problem its different for everyone I broke a pritty hard habit 10yrs on the pills and then another 6 1/2 on 150ml of methadone so my withdrawal was long and hard...its just methadone is known to be a hard withdrawal exactly how long where you on it?? as for anxiety again it comes with the withdrawal it was singly my worst symptom..I could deal with everything else...as for the physical side effects opiates have a physical and a mental withdrawal most people fear the physical but it is the mental that is really the hard part as for the symptoms them self theirs hot and cold flashes stomach cramping..restless legs and arms..creepy crawaly feelings..headaches and anxiety, diarrhea along with others not everyone gets every symptom but most of us get some of them typically they last about 4 days with methadone it can go on a wile longer....as for the energy crash you will know it when it hits...its like all the energy in your body leaves you...you will barly be able to get off the couch or get out of bed...exercise is the key to getting better you have to force yourself to move around..most people find this part of the post withdrawal the hardest part it makes everything seam impossible...please try not to get discouraged this is still very doable I just don't believe in candy coating it..I would rather prepare you mentally for this thing then to have it run you over like a bulldozer the key here is to know what to expect and not to expect it takes a wile to feel better the healing process takes time but with God and time you do heal....this will be one of the best decisions of your life and in the end when its all said and done life becomes a beautiful place once again and it is so so worth it keep posting for support where all out here for you...I will help you all I can this forum is a great support tool so post often will be here for you good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

I just wanted to share in Gnarly's support for you.  I am on Day 27 from a methadone jump from 5 mg and it was a rough ride.  I did not do a long slow detox, mine went from 20 mg to 0 mg in a matter of 3 weeks which made it really rough.  Like you, I used hydrocodone here and there to get over the rough spots, but when I got down to my last dose of methadone, I just went completely cold turkey from there and paid the piper.  The pills did not give me a good feeling, they just got me through the horrors of rapid detox.  There was a point where I could really see that I was playing with fire and the tempation was to ride out with the pills, when I realized that the methadone was not going away immediately. When I learned it would be 60-90 days, I just sat back and start doing my time.

It sounds hard, and it is, but it is definitely worth it.  The people on this site gave me the added inspiration to know that it was possible and then it got down on the inside of my ego and I decided I wanted my life back.  I traveled with my wife and kids this weekend for the first time without being chained to methadone and it was a new experience.

I wish you the best with your recovery and keep posting.  I would suggest you educate yourself on the vitamin/amino acid therapy to help build your body back up.
