I think it is if the goal is to get off all narcotics, sub is a good step down from methadone. If it is the choice between which drug is better for maintenence, methadone is better I feel. Both are repacement narcotics  and are also called "harm reduction " drugs. There isn't a good quailty of life on 200 mg. but sometimes methadone is better than the alternitive. all the best

well...there r different opinions on that...as far a I have figured out.///having used both but never addicted to either...they r about equal as far as both are maintenence drugs//both r narcotics//both are addicting//both have a long half life so wds are long...differences being sub is a partial agonist and methadone is a full agonist like hydros or oxy...but sub is so dern strong, it kinda outweighs the partial part..a 100 mg hydro user can get an nrg buzz for the day off 2 mgs of sub,,,sub also has a ceiling effect and methadone does not...sub is prescribed in the US for addiction only/while methadone is legally prescribed for pain and addiction..as a rule sub is more expensive by far than methadone...long term effects of sub use r not really completely known yet so can not compare that to methadone as mdone is an old drug

I liked the sub too much but i was a hydro user...used it when i ran out of pills//since i was not ready to stop at the time, i abused sub to replace hydro til i got more
Methaodne i was rx-ed for pain and used 20-30 mgs for 2-3 weeks when pain was tough/never had an urge to abuse methadone cos there was no nrg buzz there for me//with sub there was..but never addicted cos i knew better//same with the sub..was careful not to use it over 21 days//didnt want wds from wither one of those sticky drugs..just takes too long..
We r all different and I am not sure of ur goals..my goal was to get off narcotics//and sub and methadone are both narcotics//others goal may be to stay on a maintenence narctoic and avoid continuous relapse and to stay off the streets and out of jail//maintenence narcotics have their place and can actually save lives...for me i did not feel i needed a narcotic long term..but that is me
Being a chronic painer...and also an addict...and methadone has more pain relief than sub for me when i used each//and methadone can be filled at a pharmacy for my pain at a 10 dollar copay and sub is not..and considering i had the urge//and in fact did abouse sub and never abused methadone..I would choose methadone if it came down to me having a goal of choosing a maintenence narcotic to keep me out of jail or off the streets..but that is not where I am at//just imagining what i would do if i had the choice oir need to be on a maintenence narcotic// we r all different//and what works for one may not work for another
Perhaps others will give u their experiences//but remember it is only their experience cos we all respond differently to drugs///being on sub or methadone is not the same ..to me..as being narcotic free cos i was not when i was on them..and I also realize a drug can not make me free//only I can reach freedom with hard work and aftercare..and i am glad i found this forum so i was educated on my choices..i read the health pages and googled etc//educated myself on my choices so i did not dig a deeper hole for myself than the deep hole I was already in at that time.
What was ur original doc and dose?  how long did u use before getting on mdone?  or perhaps mdone was ur doc?  as a rule mdone is not an original doc cos most dont really get a good buzz off of it..or there would be lines in front of the mdone clinics..ur choices r ur own//only u know ur goals and where u wanna be//only u know ur past and ur capabilites...this forum is a grat place to be cos no one judges//they may share their own exoperience but since they have been where u r right now//they do not judge and support here is great
