Thanks for answering my last post. I believe that I will be trading one for the other...but I want to see if the kadian will help me to get off the other pills...even writing that makes me see how lame I am...will one addiction help the other...that sucks...I have been on pills for 6 yrs. I had two major surgeries for my back...still hurt everyday..but there has to be a point when I ask myself which is worse..back pain or pills. Right now I believe its the pills for the first time in a long time I want to stop taking these things. So If anyone knows how the Kadian is to get off when it comes time to wean myself, please let me know...and if there will be a better way to handle this Im all ears.

You've been on pain meds for a long time. Google Suboxone. It can be used for tapering, is good for pain and doesn't give you the high!!
Look into that.
The pills are obviously a bigger problem than the pain at this point. Consider getting off everything now. Like I said, once you are clean for 2-3 weeks you can reevaluate your pain. See how bad it really is, versus bad you think it is when addicted to pills!..Stop making excuses and get your life back. You can do this. You survived major back surgery twice...this is cake walk compared to that. You have a choice on this one :-)
good luck
look up the sub

I noticed that when I finally came off of the pain killers that my pain wasn't nearly as bad.  Pills make our brain hypersensitive to pain.  Naproxen, which I once wrote off as junk and a placebo, actually helps me.

Good luck on managing your pain.  But in my opinion, NOTHING is worse than an opioid addiction.

sunshine - same here.  i have back issues too, and my pain was not nearly as bad as it was ON the pills.  it takes a few weeks to REALLY feel where your pain is at, but it's pretty shocking how the opiates for most, in fact, make the pain worse...

my addiction/pain specialist really explained this all to me.. and it was so very true.  i'm just not smart enough to relay the info here!!

I believe that slow release anything is not the best drug to use when tapering. Any one else care to comment?

yep....i agree...if you crush it, it's no longer slow release but rather instant 'high'.
I'm a big fan of CT in this case. I think sunshine may be on board with that also.

I completely disagree because (in my situation), my pain is at the level it is when I'm off the meds and it's no fun.  Pain pills DO help with pain and in no way does my pain get any better off of the meds.  I think that is something that just gets passed along because "someone heard that from someone else".  I've take breaks off of meds for up to 2 months to verify this "myth" and found it to be untrue at least for me.
