new tramadol laws as of 8-18-2014

I was just wondering if anyone who buys tramadol online has some sort of plan that they can share as to what their method is of coming off of tramadol quickly before the DEA changes tramadol to a controlled substance on 8-18-2014.  I buy mine online and I have no clue what I'm going to do.  Thanks.  Appreciate any and all feedback.

Ugh!!! It is nice to know I am not alone because I always feel alone. I am a 42 yr old Mormon mom with 4 mostly grown kids and an awesome husband and I have been addicted to tramadol for at least 6 years. I will admit I was looking for something to "feel good" on when I first bought it online years ago. I take ALOT. Sometimes more than 40 a day. I can't get it anymore. I knew this was coming and have been trying to wean myself. I am SCARED. I don't want to tell anyone!! I have hid this long, I just want to get thru withdrawl and move on. That being said.... I am using kratom to ease tramadol withdrawl. I have supplemented in the past when I was really low on tramadol. Any other help/advice would be awesome. I want this monkey off my back and this chapter closed!!! Thoughts!??

it doesn't matter if you are ABLE to order anywhere online the DEA is cracking down.  they are monitoring all online pharmacies and they will catch you.  do you really want to go to prison for tramadol??

I understand how you feel about going to rehab.  But it sounds like you may not have a choice.  You will have a bad time withdrawing from them if you don't have a doctor and if you bought them online.  Come august 18th that's it for people who bought them online...its all over and if you are taking a lot like most people here then its going to be dangerous.  You have to care about your well being.  Your husband just doesn't get it but that's too bad.  Listen to your doctor.  You do NOT want to go cold turkey from these pills.  They work like an antidepressant and a pain med...so when you withdraw suddenly I am really worried what will happen because you said you already know you were suicidal before.  Its not like opiates where you just have physical withdrawals and then after a few weeks your better.  These pills have changed your brain chemistry.  Your brain went on a vacation and the pills took over and your brain isn't manufacturing its own mood regulators anymore...tramadol is.  So that's why you felt suicidal when you ran out.  I may sound like a hypocrite but I have enough pills to cut down a half a pill every 21 days which will take me until January when I will be done.  Some people don't think its doable but I had to do it off benzos before which took me 4 months and it was easy because I didn't want to take them anymore and because I didn't need them anymore, which is where I'm at with tramadol.  I don't want them, they don't help my pain or make me happy anymore so I couldn't care less....but my body is dependent on them.  So I am lucky that I have enough to do this on my own and I have experience doing it on my own.  But if I was in your shoes I wouldn't have a choice but to get a doctor's help.  You have to get a plan soon because you only have a month left and I'm worried what a lot of people are going to go through come August.

It would be a good idea to start your own thread, as it gets confusing you not being the original poster.

As for your detox/rehab, you've already identified that it's best for you to tackle this in a supervised, safe environment, so if that's what you need, that's what you do.  It will NEVER be a "good time", you just have to do it.  Explain to your husband that a few weeks of inconvienence is worth having you around, so you're safe and on the road back to being sober and living your life as intended.

Timing just *****! Tramadol is how I escape from lifes stresses in my life. I don't know I'm going to get mentally prepared for in patient treatment aling with everything else going in. My husbands not real thrilled with idea of me going away for a week or two. I keep saying tomorrow and tomorrow comes and then I find a cop out and tell myself tomorrow and tomorrow hasn't come for me for three and half years. I definitely need to be where I can be watched because the few times that I ran out for a couple of days I got suicide l.

I just spent some time in rehab and you know what?  It was the best thing I could have done for MYSELF.  Not only do they help you safely detox, but you are in a safe atmosphere with others going through the same thing.  Life is life.  It is going to be there whether you do rehab or not, but you will get the tools to help better deal with the stress in your life.  I highly recommend it.

I would really think long and hard about what your daughter wants.  She wants you to be safe.  It also sounds like you are having alot of stress in your life right now and all these pills are doing is prolonging you dealing with what is really going on, not to mention the cost of online buying.

I'm so glad I joined medhelp a few days ago. I've felt so isolated for very long time and thinking I'm going crazy. I have been taking tramadol for 13 years do to chronic pain. I toi have been buying extra meds out of state and country on top of my prescription from familydoc. I posted yeyesterday about new laws with tramadol starting August 18. I'm scared as hell! My daughter wants me to go to in patient rehab and detox.  I'm thinking this couldn't have come at a more inconvenient time. I've been waiting for ssi for three and a half years; my husband and I are going through bankruptcy; and foreclosure on home we have had for 25 years. What next? Also I was wanting to know if anyone has started any law suits against manufacture of tramadol?

i seen a dateline or 20/20 about online pharmacys and it was quite scary. you must have found a legit one or you would have already been sick from it.  the internet is the internet and anyone can go on those sites and get meds.  you just wouldn't believe the filth where they are created and what is actually in them.  yuck

habits are hard to break, but they say anything you do for 7 days becomes a habit.  that includes good things too. like going 7 days without tramadol.

either way, wish you luck on getting to your prescribed amount and then have a talk with your doctor if you are in actual pain.  even if you are not, you should have supervision coming off of them.  they are a whole different animal to our brains.

It is very dangerous to buy online meds so i am very glad this law is going into effect.  Tramadol is also a very dangerous drug.  Seizures are common with this med.  I hope at some point you will talk with your doctor~

I appreciate all of your suggestions.  I have enough pills to decrease them by half a pill every 21 days.  I should be down to my actual allowed amount of 4 per day by January.  I don't take them for fun and I have my husband to help me.  At this point its just that I take them out of habit.  They don't actually work anymore and haven't for several years.  My husband is going to dole them out to me if I cant control myself, but I doubt that will be a problem.  I have fought dependency alone a few times all by myself.  I was on benzo's (4 mg a day...Ativan) which I was on for 8 yrs, Percocet (5x325  at 8 a day)which I was on for 6 years and tramadol (14 a day) which I've been on for 10 yrs...all at the same time.  3 years ago I tapered myself off the Ativan and it was gradual and took me 4 months.  Next was the Percocet which I went off fairly quickly because tramadol helped with the withdrawal.  The benzo's were pretty easy because I knew I couldn't get anymore so I found it easy to taper.  the percs were harder because I actually liked the feeling they gave me, but I still did it because I wasn't going to get anymore of them either.  this is the last thing to go and i'm determined and ready. I just feel bad for all the poor sould who have no clue that things are changing in August because they wont have a chance to figure out a plan.

i suggest weaning yourself to the amount your doctor prescribes and if they no longer work at that dosage ask for some other type of medication.  sometimes we need to change versus go up in dosage.  one thing i do know is whether you stock up online or not, sooner or later you are going to have to face detoxing from them.  it seems to be a difficult detox from what i have read.  i am almost at day 6 of fentanyl detox and can say i have been to hell

Excellent advice about the DEA crackdowns.  Just another thought, but whenever I stockpiled pills, it gave my addict permission to take more because I had more.  That led to an even worse addiction.  No matter how many times I had extras and said I was going to tsprr, it never happrnrd.  The pills whispered out to me and before I knwe it I was taking another one or 2.  Heck, I tried taking only what I needed for the day with me, and I won wind up driving home on lunch to get more because I knew that they were there.  Yes, stockpiling is addict behavior and a very scary, slippery slope.  Please talk to your Dr.  They have seen it all.  Your afraid to be labeled an addict.  Addiction is a disease just like diabetes.  They still have to treat your pain, they just have to monitor it for you better.  This is a safety measure you put in place for you.  It is not a punishment.  Trust me, it only gets worse if you try to do this alone.  Does anyone else know about this?

YesLife4Me's post above is really really true.  I understand that you're in a difficult position, but you have to tell your doc what's going on.  Let your doc be the one to help you.  Planning to stockpile meds is not good.  Tramadol is already a scheduled narcotic in some states, buying prescriptions online without an Rx is illegal...you could find yourself in hot water.  The DEA is REALLY cracking down on online Rx buying.  They will bust various sites, and then they will have info about who ordered what, when, how.

I know you're frightened, that's understandable.....but you really need help with this.  You're on a slippery slope, and this needs addressed ASAP.  Like Yes said, the next step would be graduating to stronger medications, and more of them.  Your doctor still has to help you manage your pain...but he absolutely positively needs to be aware of your addiction.  Choosing not to tell the doc is your addict brain's way of keeping options open.

Stay close, keep posting.  We're here to help and support you.

Do you have someone that can be you taper?  They would hold your pills and only give you what you need?  I understand your fear of telling your Dr.  But as addicts, keeping secrets is what keeps us bound to our addiction. We try to manage it and always lose control because we are powerless over it.  Perhaps you can start attending meetings for support as well?  I graduated to opiates when I ran out of tramadol early.  I fear that might happen with you.  I wish you all the best.

I cant tell my dr. I need to keep a good relationship with hiom because I have serious spinal issues and he is my pain management dr.  he prescribes me 4 per day but within the last 10 yrs I have worked my way up to 10 per day.  I have supplemented online...that's how I got to such a high doseage.  my plan is to stockpile as many as I can from online before the 18th of august so that I can do a taper that's not too dreadful.  telling my dr isn't an option unfortunately.

You really need to speak with your doctor (or a doctor) about this asap.  Tramadol addiction is not something to take lightly.  How many do you take a day, and how long have you been taking them?

Tramadol taken in high doses will cause seizures.  Have you experienced anything like that?

It would be advisable for you to be tapered slowly, under the supervision of a doctor.  You're also going to need to seek out addiction recovery help as well.

I would highly recommend you make an appointment with your Dr. And let him know how much you have been taking so he can he you with a taper plan.  This is not a drug you cold turkey easily from due to risks of seizures.   It can be done, but the SSRI quality in it is long lasting and is similar to coming off benzos.  How much are you currently using?
