occasional oxcodone hcl use

Please don't judge...I'm 33 weeks pregmant and have occasionally used oxycodone hcl 5mg for my back and leg pain...I was NOT prescribed them and was using my husbands without his knowledge...I have heard many stories about them being safe and doing no harm and also stories of baby withdrawing after birth...I.have mever gone thru withdraw myself from them because I don't believe I have done enough every month to become addicted...I am wondering if I have never gone thru withdraw if baby will still withdraw...also how long it would take to be out of both mine and babies system...if I'm 33 weeks now and deliver at 38+ weeks will both our system be clean and will baby still go thru withdraws when born...

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. I know the last thing you need is people being judgemental. I was on methadone and norco through 2 pregnancies prescribed by my doctor. I weaned down to only 1 or 2 norco a day for the last 3 weeks and the babies did not have any withdrawl symptoms. If you quit now it should be fine. I don't know about the testing because mine was by prescription. Try to be strong for your baby and don't take any more. You can do it.

Gm anonymous, you should not be taking these pills whatsoever, beings that you're with child. Especially if your doctor doesn't know. Unfortunately, these days when a woman delivers a newborn child, you're both tested automatically for drug use. Please inform your doctor immediately, and let him know. Also, you do know that once they find this opiate in your system, it's definitely going to be in your child's system and CPS, meaning child protective services will be called. I really advise you to inform your doctor immediately and your husband/father of your child. Good luck sweetheart. Hope this advice helps you and more importantly, hope I'm not too late. Sincerely, Ms. Che

Your lack of w/d has nothing to with the babies w/d. A 5mg pill taken by an adult who weighs 120 or above is different than 5 mg in someone who weighs 7 lbs. All drugs given to children are dosed according to weight.  There are no guarantees for this baby. Don't ever do that again. Don't rely on stories you have heard. Get the facts from your doctor.

You really need to talk with your OB about this.  Most states do a drug test on babies now so you dont want any surprises as CPS will step in.

Should probably tell your doctor. And also, never take anything without asking your doctor first regardless of what "stories" you've heard about them being safe.
