opiate is a opiate???

Hello all, today is day 14 for me off methadone and Im doing well. My question is for my brother who I have talked into getting off methadone and he is up for the task but he wants to take vics or percs to help with the wd's. he has no previous use of percs or vics...just methadone. My thing is that an opiate is a opiate right??? Am I right or does he stand a chance doing that.

i have used short acting opiates to detox from methadone, i am actually a fan, before suboxone most detox facilities used these drugs as comfort meds for methadone patients
as long as he has a taper plan and sticks to it, and ofcoarse na, return to use happens to the majority of people who refuse to goto meetings
not saying everyone who gets clean by other means, cannot do it, however 12step meetings are the most accepted means if recovery, respected by tx facilities, doctors and courts
