ive heard methadone makes you real sick at first, probably be easier with suboxone or tapering

methadone is a pain killer and addictive too. You will have to come off of it someday. Withdrawals are horrible and it is days or weeks of hell but living a life of addiction is too. There is no easy solution

I agree w/IBK...stay away from methadone....very dangerous and much more difficult to get off!  PLEASE!  We all hate the withdrawals but guess what...we did it to ourselves and there are other ways to somewhat ease the discomforts! I don't mean to sound harsh but it is the reality of our situation. I don't know much about suboxone but it sounds like this may be a better alternative. I also understand that you have to detox from this as well. Good Luck whatever you decide!
Peace

how do u taper?  i take around 10 10mg/325 of percocets a day.  sometimes i take darvocet or vicoden if i dont have any of the other.  i ahve taken 60 10mg/325 since the 28th of Jan.  i started when my husband left to go to iraq it was my way of dealing with his absence.  i have children i love more than anything i just want my lfe back

hun, so sorry you got hooked to deal with your hubby being in iraq.  it must be so hard, but you need to be here for your kids.  if you can go to a dr and get some ant-anxiety meds, it will be easier to wd from the pain meds and to deal with your husbands absence.  i would deffinately advise you to stay away from methadone.  from personal experience, it is much more difficult to kick than the percs are.  maybe a dr. that specializes in suboxone, and only for a very short time as it is also addictive if taked for long.  then taper off of it.  no way is easy, but it is worth it to get free.  i'll be praying for you, dear.

You can taper down a little each day then no matter what you have to give it all up and go cold turkey. Some will disagree but I don't think tapering make much difference. You are putting off the withdrawals. Withdrawals are not easy but do it for your kids and most of all for you. You can do it. I'm a very weak and whimpy person and I have been clean for 11 months.

People will help you with a tapering sched for sure. Can you taper ? Thats something that even you wont know until you try. If your physically dependant you have a better chane then if your an addict. I cant taper but others have done it successfully. For me though addiction is about obsession and even if I could physically taper  ( use less pills.etc) the obsession of knowing that they were available was to much. Mine were locked in a safe that only my wife could open so I would use her love and care for me to convince her I needed pills and like I said ,,even if she was strong and didnt give me any the obsession would drive me crazy. There are diff ways to quit and the one that works for you is the right one but plz remember that quitting is the easy part, staying quit is a lifelong process and again if you find recovery regardless of how then you chose the right way gl

suboxone is a med that keeps you from feeling the wd's, and blocks the receptors in your brain from absorbing the pain meds.  you get through the worst of the wd's relatively painlessly, but the mental stuff is still something you will have to deal with.

Welcome to the forum. You will get a lot of help here. I'm glad you made the decision to get your life back...your children need you!  I tapered off vics and i had wd but they were very minimal compared to ct..but the bad thing is ,it is more drawn out than if you go ct.....meanin if you ct it will be ove rin 4-5 days....and if you taper it will be minimal but last the whole time you are tapering..but i was able to do everything I needed to do w/ no problem so you need to decide how you want to do it (ct or taper)...avisg is great setting up a taper schedule...go to GoingToMakeIt profile and look at the Thomas Recipe...you will need to get all your things together to help you thru this time. Hot baths work wonders for the crawly legs and achey (achy) muscles, Immodium for diarrhea(I didn't have any diarrhea or nausea w/ a slow taper) . Good luck and keep posting!

agree with the posts above,,,tapering is very hard if you are addicted...I have been trying to taper on my own for 3-4 months and would end up taking the same every day or more...I had to give them to a friend to dole out daily to me...has been a little bit of a pain but it worked...I also know you have to really want to quit...I had a certain amount of pills to work with and with help from here, i set up my taper..tomorrow is the last day and i have one pill..it will be in 4 .25 mg doses or 1/4 pill 4x tomorrow...I have managed to work and will take time off starting on Thursday for 5 days..If I could have taken off work sooner, I agree with toxic...this taper may have prolonged the agony..I would be finished by now...but I have a job and could not take off till thursday and I am almost there....if u continue with the pills, you will be absent too in a way

I can gurantee that we have ALL had flus worse than withdrawals.  It's VERY mental.  Tell yourself you are sick.. which you are but try telling yourself that.
You say you can't do it but you CAN.  Everyone can.
Whatever you do, no methadone.

Don't use methadone to get of oxy and put gas on a fire. There isn't always a drug solution to a drug problem. all the best

i'm new here but i need some help. i'm seventeen and i started using an opiate named opana about a year ago when i can get that i do oxycodone. i use it almost everyday and im starting to use more and more. i've tried to quit but its rly hard for me because i can be stoned all the time and know one can tell. i know i'm screwing up everything i've worked for and i need some help gettin' clean. please give me some advice. not only that but i steal them from family members and i feel terrible about it, and i hate myself for lying to my girlfriend about it. i used to smoke a ton of pot and she thinks im clean because i haven't smoked in a month and a half. i'm ashamed of myself. when i started i had no clue how quickly you could get hooked.
