oxycodone urine levels

A friend who is recovering from oxycodone abuse recently started using again.  we had a urine test done which came back positive.  I need help understanding the results.  the results cutoff point is 100 ng/ml however the results were much higher(in the thousands).  What does this mean.  we need to know how many pills they took.  Can anyone please help?

i am so pissed. i have been in crazy pain and took my son's presciption oxycodone so i can sleep. they are 10/325. i forgot about the pill and did a DOT drug screen and came back possitive for oxycodone at 100ng/ml. from what i have been reading that is the borderline or being negative or possitive and now have to see a SAP to get my job back. i did not think of it showing up on a drug screen and on my first day of work i told my supervisor after watching the drug video. i could kick myself in the ass. i have stopped taking them and will not again UNLESS i have my own prescription. I have read that it can go as high as 9000 ng/ml, geez makes me so mad. I do not abuse drugs and never have but am being treated like i am. :(

it was oxycodone capsuls.  the story is that she put 20 or so pills in her mouth chewed them then spit them out.   one of the problems is that she has been lying to her family for years now and its hard to believe her.  of course she got defensive and like its no big deal.."i spit them out".... .  we think she may have been using again for a while and we just caught her this time..

If she chewed them up, then there's a good possibility that she ingested them regardless. Even if she spit them out, she would still get it into her system. Especially if it was a high dose pill and she swallowed any saliva at all. I'm assuming it was an Oxycontin pill.

Thanks for all your help.  the problem were having is the test results were 9285 ng/ml approx. 6- 10 hours after the dose.  her story is that she put the pills in her mouth started chewing then spit them out.  we are having a hard time believing this with such a high resulting number.  not sure how to confront her and get the truth.

If you take most any dose it will kick your levels over the 200ngl thresh-hold. After that it depends on the time from your last dose. Say you took one 10mg Percocet and took the test a hour later. You'll be well over the 2000ngl level. That level will come down over the course of a couple of days until it basically clears the system. It doesn't take much to cause you to jump over 2000ngl..

"now im curious cuz how many would u need to take to go over that level using oxies??? "

There is no way anyone could answer that...it would depend on a WHOLE lot of factors.  A person's metabolism, the last time they used in regards to the test, the route (oral vs IV), and so on and so forth.  Pretty much there is a good chance of a test showing the presence of opiates in the system if someone is abusing.

If it is still being excreted, it will be a positive result.

You can't confirm "abuse" at 2000ngl. 2000ngl is just the cutoff mandated by SAMHSA. Over 2000ngl and the test comes back positive. Under the 2000ngl level and the test reports negative. You can't tell the amount taken from the concentration, so there's  no way you could accuse someone of abusing the meds at these levels. I'm sure there is an upper level that would show an overdose, or out of safe range, but you still couldn't confirm how many they took from these numbers.

You can't easily distinguish dosages taken by the amount in the urine test. It just shows how many parts per million there is. The drug is extracted so much over time dependent on the person's metabolism. So, the number you're given will depend on tons of factors such as time of last dose, person's metabolism, whether the stomach was empty, method of taking the drug (oral versus IV), and even how much of the drug was actually absorbed. Way too many factors to even begin to foster a guess.
