To my understanding Oxycontin is a form of Heorin melted down. It is also so very Highly Highly Addictive as the same as Oxycodone. (I belive I spelled correctly) any ways, A close friend of mine passed away A year and a half ago takeing Oxycontin. Yes it does make you forget things especially it makes you for get if one has already taken their medication or not so what does one do? They take it again. And soon it gets worse because they constantly forget and the next thing that happens is that one over doses.Thats what happened to my friend Theresa. May she rest in peace! Best advise i can give every one is to seek our father God and make sure you are ready for Gods help! No time for doubts now!          God bless you all and you all will be in my prayers.

Tactikal,  If you have to keep one working, methadone may be an answer to you.  If you are taking 10-15 perc's or oxy's a day, then only dose until you feel the cravys go away.  Methadone was initially founded to help herion addicts in the early 70's.  It is as strong as heroin. You will not need the dose of of a heroin addict or dilaudid addict(drug store heroin).  My habit was dilaudid, and I bumped it of course.  Methadone saved my life.  I had been on it before, I withdrew from it before.  It is not easy to get off, especially if you allow yourself to get to a high dose, anything over 60-70mg /day.  People love to keep raising their dose to feel the boost which comes around with 40/50mg/day.  Then you can up every week.  The clinics do not advertise it, but in extreme cases you can get 150mg legally via the clinic.  Just be responsible.  I lost 50 unneeded pounds last detox.  I was in size 7's.  It me a while to get to where I could eat.  I had to eat small meals.  Immodium AD was a must and so was gatorade.
Think hard before you take on methadone.  It is more difficult to get off than anything.  But it will allow you to keep your job.  Good luck and Blessings,   Ava

i don't know whether or not i have the right place but, i'll write anyway.
i am an addict of percocet,i eat 25 to 30 a day(125mg to 150mg)
i own a business and am about to loss everything if this does not stop.
i have quit several times only for 2 to3 days and then the pain is too bad to handle.i haven't went to any rehabs being that i could not afford it due to the price, plus i would not be able to take that much time away from my business.
the time has come where i know i am done with my addiction.
i do not!!! want to live like this anymore. the reason i am writing is, i would like some help on how to detox. i was told to go through a methadon clinic but, i worry that it may become a new problem. then i have read through the forum here sayin' about family doctors. i have thought of that myself but, wasn't sure if they could help.
what is the best route to take, i know that i will feel like
sh!t no matter what but, i must try to be functional so, i can be there for my business.
what should i do, family doctor or methadon?
please help, i really want my life that i once knew.....thank you for any help...

Hey Skipper. Babyrabbit here. Thanks for letting me know I am not crazy. I am 27 years old and only been using cocain for 2 years. I wish I would have never seen the stuff. I have a highly addictive personality. I am substance abuse classes now,but i still can't kick the oxycontin and hydrocodone habit.I too have noticed memory loss. I can't remember simple things like where I put something or even that someone told me something just an hour ago. My sister has been addicted for quite sometime now also. She is 37. It is a very rough battle. Withdraws are horrible, but if you want to you can wean yourself off,and eventually quit. It is the "want to" inside of everyone that has to come out first. My want to is getting stronger everyday now.I wish you the best of luck. I will be praying. Thanks again.

If YOur Dr. is perscrpbing each Antidressent and the depakote for a reson, than I'm sure he knows best.I have a 13 yr. old who has 5 dR.'s(mental and phisical) and takes prozak, depaacot and adderol everyday. I wish I could have her stop all meds, but there is no way she could funtion without them. I serched for support groups, talked to anyone who know more than I (and listened)read books and looked up on the internet. I know fel mushc better about her problem, and in the meantime have learned about my own adiction problems! u are rite Opiads are bad news--stay away if possible,if you have ever been addicted to them, it will come rite back even 20 years later. Should you need something for pain there is always tylenol 3 or Davacet, even advil if you arn't in too much pain. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. I'm on day 5--withdraw from percocet and using Bupernex, it's a wonder drug ( the Bup). If you did it for 20 years, you're a tough girl, tougher than I am 4 sure!!!

I was a long time user of Vicodin and Percoset and came to believe that these drugs can actually cause pain!  It's not uncommon for one to develop water retention and swelling of the lower extremities.  There were times when I could not bend my knees or wear socks and shoes.

It's possible that you have some withdrawal problems as well.  Another thing to think about is maybe you have a bad mattress and are actually hurting yourself in your sleep.  Don't laugh at this idea!  We may go to bed in a blissful, painless state...sleep in some contorted position and awake hours later with not only withdrawals but strange aches and pains.

By all means, seek medical help and have some tests done if you are able.  I'd say good luck but "luck" has nothing to do with addiction problems...you have to fight and win everything you get!

Hello,

I'm sorry you are experiencing that much pain... I have to ask a question though. When you say you "Can't move" do you mean you literally can't move (you are now paralized), or do you mean it is too painful to move? If you have been taking only 1 or 2 percocets per day, the withdrawl symptoms would be mildly painful, but no worse than a bad case of the Flu-- and would only last between 3 days and at most a week. keep coming back and watch for more input on this board, I'm sure you will get more answers from the good people who visit here!

You are most welcome and I'm glad that you know you have a problem!  My first round with addiction was very unpleasant in that it took an arrest by law enforcement and 30 days on a detox ward before I realized that I had a problem.  I was clean for over twenty years when my addiction came back to ruin my life.  I was arrested for script forgery and spent another six weeks in detox and a rehab program.  Why I relapsed is a long sad story, but at the time I actually "believed it was warranted".

Please know that there are millions of people like us out here that are struggling with the same problems.  Now that you've opened the door and come out of hiding, maybe there is hope for you! Ultimately, we have to draw a line in the sand and declare war on our addiction.  Or you could "***** foot" around like me and keep suffering.  It's a matter of choices.

You may be able to find a suport group on the back of one of the local "street papers" or at least in the regular paper under self help. Even call your're local hospital, they have Support groups for everything! I
I hope your antidepressents are monitered by a dr. cause I think u sould only take one at a X. I tryed em all , none helped, was
dissapointed by that. hoping thomas's recipe will work better.
HANG IN THERE--we are your friends and support group--I just started here and it just makes such a difference to no there are people out there  who understand what I have and am going thru.
bless you and we care about you.

Yes, the antidepressants are monitored by a physician - wellbutrin, prozac and lamictal (which is actually an anticonvulsant that is used to treat mood disorders, Ilike tegretol or depakote). Depression is much more of a long-term impediment in my life so I am reluctant to change the regimen. However I know from experience that using opioids makes my depressions worse.
Thank you for making me feel so welcome. I hid this problem, lied, denied, you name it for a long time.

As far as finding a group specific to your profession, keep searching.  My group had three nurses and a physician.  We didn't specialize by occupation and concentrated on addiction as a whole.  But Chicago is a huge city and may have such groups.

I was intrigued by your statement that you are on "several antidepressants".  I've tried most of them but not concurrently.  One AD actually seemed to make me want to drink alcohol more than usual(and not suffer a hangover), and a couple of others caused me some sexual problems.  I'm presently on Wellbutrin and it seems to be the best one for me all-around. I believe that anytime we use drugs to change our brain chemistry, all sorts of things can crop up... including more opiate abuse.

Hi, I'm new here.  I'm having a lot of trouble finding a support group for impaired physicians/health care providers in the Chicago area. Can anyone give me a suggestion?   Also, I am on several antidepressants - can they interact with vicodin or valium or with withdrawal?

thanks for your support/ 3 days with the Bupernex and I feel great. I hate injecting, but my Dr. says it's the only way.
the reason I want to go thru this fast is mainly I am afraid I will get addicted to the Bup. I have heard and read opposing reports. 2) I don't think the Bup will help me thru the "depresion" stage, I think I will need to be totaly clean to go thru that, and that's tough. Where I live you can get just about any pain or detox med you want. Sometimes I think the Dr.wants you on it as long as possible, more $$ for him???? detox from Oxy's is a whole different thing than from ercodoan or lorecet. I cut down from 5X to 4X (3mg) a day already, I think I can do it faster than he claims it should be done.Anyone else gone from high Oxy addiction to Bupernex and have a success story? I'd love to hear it--you guys are all so great to have/ you're my only support group. think positive and do this for YOU!

hi-I am brand new to this site and I have enjoyed and learned from all of you comments and suggestions. I have been on and off (mostly on) opiats for 15 years or so. percocet, vicodan, lorecet then came the oxy's. WOW. I knew after a year they were really bad news. I quit cold turkey- was in bed for a week real sick-my husb thought I had the flu. Then felt bad and couldn't sleep or eat it took 25 days to get the OC's out of my system, then still had the depression. I stayed clean for a few months, had dental surgery-got percocet and started using pills again(no oxy's!). All these years of pills has been rough on my body (i'm 39) too much tylenol also. Went to a pain/dteox place and got Buprenex 3 days ago. I hated to have to start injections (never did that b4)
but I feel great. 3mg 5X pr day. Absolutly no withdrawal-My ? is what will happen when I stop taking the Buprenex?? Dr. says take it for 2 mont--a slow withdraw--I plan to do it in 2-3 weeks--I want to cut down a lot faster--anyone had ecperience with this? I'm almost afraid I will get addictd to the Bup! I then plan to follow Thomas's recipe for vitamins. I expect to feel rotten for a day or 2. Any of you know what I am in for? I would like to know what to expect when I quit the Bupernex totaly--physicaly anyway. I know from previous x's the depression will probobly last 90 days or so?? ANY advise would be apreciated. I had never heard of this Bupernex till last week. Thanks to all of you I feel like I have new friends that can understand what I am going thru! Bless you all-b back tomorrow

Dunit:
welcome to the forum! there is always room for one more addict, so come on in!!

i've never detoxed using bup, but would like to try it. i've heard it is a "wonder drug" for opiate detox. i guess i'm curious as to your reasion to be done with the bup in 2-3 weeks. if your doc (who provided you with bup) says 2 months, then why not give it the full two months? i understand you want to get on with this detox stuff as quickly as possiable, but why not let your docter do the doctering? if your doc gave you the bup, he/she must be fairly knowledgeable about the most recent developements in the treatment of opiate addiction. it seems to me, if your doc is being square with you,(believe me he is) than it would be to your benefit to be as square with he/her as possiable.

also i would suggest that you start Thomas's recipe of vitamens,
minerals & amino acids (L-Tyrosine) as soon as possiable. i bet you will be as amazed by the results with this as  you are with bup!

best of luck with your recovery! try to remember your recovery
will come about at it's own time table, not yours. try to keep
your expections in today and things will go more smoothly. hope
to see more posts from you!!

keep an angel on your shoulder!!

Great going, Nod! Isn't it a relief to have told your wife?

Now, if you go through withdrawals or post-withdrawal depression, you don't have to try to hide it from her (which will drive you back to addiction).

It's our secrets that kill us.

Absolutely.

Schlub,
Day 5!  Thats just great.  Won't be long now, keep up the fight. Soon you will be YOU again. What a great thing.

Came "clean" with the Mrs last night.  She kind of knew all along, she's a pretty smart lady and I have to admit I'm one luck SOB to have her. She is ready to support me all the way. I just have to hold my end of the bargain. That's step one.  Next is the Doc, see him next week.  It's like you said Do or Die.  Like you, I have decided to live.

Gotta thank you.  Your email to me 4-5 days ago slapped me upside the head.  Keep fighting, Schlub.  I'm hear for you. Were gonna make it!  By end next week I'll have my 'support' team all in place.

hi..new to the board and I read all of it everyday and even posted a comment regarding Darvon. (skip was kind enough to answer) Anyway in regards to your liver question: Get a liver panel done..(I also have achey, annoying pain in my upper right quadrant...kinda feels like when you sleep on an empty stomach all nite and wake up with that horrible ache?..yep) been taking vicodin for 3 years and drink on occasion.  I have had a ct, mri, and hyda-scan and docs say NOTHING WRONG! I believe if you hurt or ache, your body is telling you something. Personally, I want to ask my dr. for a liver biopsy to see if my liver is ok...Do the same! I stopped the vics 4 days ago and the pain stopped! Go figure!  I do have some tylenol 3's that I am contemplating taking if the pain gets too much and I have not taken any darvon since yesterday (makes me too tired, no good on pain)..and if the pain starts again, I'll know it's the damn acetominifin (sp) and tylenol...i'll let ya know.  Also, been drinking "detox" herb tea (taste like ****) but maybe it will help.  You can get it in any vitamin store. By the way, meeting my doc next week to talk about other pain meds...any suggestions on what other to take for chronic back pain besides anything with acetominifin?  something not that addicting?

I found tapering to be like a constant "death by a thousand cuts" rather than the short swift kick in the head that comes with total quitting.

Talk to your doc about Bupfrenex. You will fee ZERO symptoms of withrawal no matter how bad your addiction was. Of course, that's just fr wek one. In week 2 when you sto the Bup, then comes the depression and lethargy. But anti-depressats ca help with that, and for some people it's not so bad. Only lasts a week or two anyway. But Bup let's you kick and go to work.

I'm on Day 5 of detox from a BIG habit and I feel just fine. Normal. All thanks to the Bup.

If you want a bunch of brief research abstracts on how effective Bup is so you can show them to your doc let me know.

Hang in there.
