im answering both questions here:
yes, Oxycodone is an opioid derived from thebaine, found in the poppy, it is roughly 50% stronger than hydrocodone(vicodin) and in the form of Oxycontin( pure oxycodone in 20, 40, + 80 mgs pills), if crushed into a fine powder and taken orally, snorted, intravaneously, or skin popped, it releases a high dose of straight oxycodone to the brain causing a high very similar to heroin, hence the common slang name "hillbilly heroin" for OC. I was heavily addicted to both Oxycontin and Heroin for over two years and could care less which one I got as long as I had some...low dose formulations of oxycodone such as percocet(oxycodone/acetiminophen(tylenol)) or percodan(oxycodone/aspirin) which is most commonly given in 5mg or 10 mg tablets is usually given after certain surgeries and for people in severe pain. both oxycontin and percocet abuse has grown in popularity immensely in the past 10 years. its extremely drastic how fast it has arose to being a DOC for people. and the wd's are the same as other opiates of its kind like heroin or dilaudid. the big difference in availability of oxycontin and percocet is that Oxycontin is way way harder to get prescribed as its usually only prescribed for terminal cancer patients or from scrupulous doctors who are in it for some serious cash;its expensive and a huge money maker, but it is deadly and the addictiveness is terrible. Percocet isn't super easy to get like Vicodin, but many users who "doctor shop" find it easy to get a prescription for 30+ of them(I know i did it a hundred times for made up back pain or chest pain), it was ridiculous...to the original question, for say a urine drug test, a regular user of oxycodone or other opioids it will take 3-6 days to leave your body completely, aim for a week to be safe, the half-life of oxycodone, meaning half the drug out of your blood stream after taking a dose is roughly 3-4 hours and the "high" lasts around 5 hours. if you took it once or twice, or consumed it very sparingly, like once every other month, which is very rare, but does occur, it will only take about 2-3 days to leave your body completely. both of those time estimates are for urine test, hair test are a whole other story. that can detect opioids and other drugs for far longer than urine or blood test. if you have any other questions about any opioid or opiate let me know, i studied pharmacology and am in training to be a substance abuse counselor, take methadone daily, and for some reason am obsessed with leaning everything I can about drugs, so feel free whenever..christos

My son who has been clean from opiates for over 500 days. He is in a drug court program and gets tested weekly and also randomly. He has always gotten the urine test but recently had a saliva test which showed a trace of oxycodone. He is adamant that he did not take it and even had a hair follicle test, however, we have come to find out even though it showed negative, it won't be accepted because it doesn't show a one time use, only chronic use.
The only things we can think of is someone putting something in his drink (highly unlikely) the lab making an error or is it at all possible that just touching the bottle (my husband has vicoden in our pill cabinet) could cause the highly sensitive saliva test to show a small trace?

I take 5 mg oxycodone for lower back deterioration. Usually 3 per day, sometimes more or less according to the pain level. They wear off rather quickly. My problem is that my family doctor drug tested me to make sure I was taking my meds but I couldn't urinate. I willingly gave blood. The test came back saying there was no oxycodone in my system. I recently had gastric bypass surgery and was wondering if maybe I'm not absorbing the drug. I was allowed to take the urine test home just to play with. When I urinated in the drug strip cup it showed that I was in fact taking them, but I can't prove this to the doc since I took the test at home. Any thoughts?

This was posted to me the other day at the pain management forum. i asked about Oxy half-life, as I was blessed not having w/d's after a crazy bout. ( I have since turned them over to my wife to manage) here ya go..

the half-life of Oxycodone is 3 - 4.5 hours. Now a lot of factors can increase this value (eg. if you suffer from renal failure, liver issues etc.) But assuming the worst, and let's say you have taken 20mg of Oxycodone. This means:
4.5 hours later - 10mg remaining
9 hrs later - 5mg remaining
13.5 hrs later - 2.5mg
18 hrs - 1.25mg
22.5 hrs - 0.625mg
27 hrs - 0.3125mg left
31.5 hours - 0.16mg left
