oxycontin addiction

Hello, I used to take oxycontin for a long time for my back pain, im not proud to say that i became addicted to that medication. my back pain is gone, but i cant go through a normal day without taking more oxy's and i want it to stop. few months ago i went for a methadone program, and i stopped after few months as i was getting addicted to the methadone and it was making me feel worst than how oxy made me feel on the days that i dont take it. Now i remember watching a documentary on tv that was talking about a medication that helps with addiction just like methadone but except that its not an opiate, i forgot what its called, maybe if someone knows what im talking about so you can name it for me. I have other questions other than whats the name of that drug, and ill go on as soon as someone names it.

Thank You
Moe

There are drugs out there that are more effective than methadone and suboxone in mediating opiate withdrawal. The drug companies won't market them for addiction treatment because they'd rather have you be on methadone for a year than trazodone for a week.

Medications that I've found to be effective for with the restless legs, insomnia, and "crawling skin" symptoms of WD:

Trazodone (Desyrel, Oleptro): a serotonin modulator, prescribed for depression and insomnia

Clonidine: prescribed for high blood pressure

Propranolol: beta-blocker, prescribed mainly for high blood pressure

and of course Marijuana and Benzodiazepines always help too. It really depends on your unique body chemistry and the extent and duration of your drug abuse but I think it is usually best to ween the opiates down very slowly and then switch to a trazodone and clonidine regimen for a week (with some overlap with the weening).

NO not the same thing.. Naloxone will put you into WD... there is a small tiny amount of it in SUboxone but it is to prevent use of the drug IV.

I am so sorry... I know you were counting on this... Canada has not approved its use yet.. Can you find a addiction doc in your area>>

Can you go to a addiction specialist. Many of those docs can prescribe stuff to help with detox from opiates.. things like clonidine and others..

I just called the pharmacy, the pharmacist i talked to said that he never heared of suboxone and by looking at the system he said its not available in canada, altho he told me about Naloxone, he said it could be the same thing, and naloxone is available here,  is it the same ?

go to suboxone.com type in your zip and you will get a list of docs in your area that are certified to give it to you.. Call around and get prices. FInd out if they will do just a detox or if they want you to committ to long term use.. which you dont' want to do trust me... long term use people have a heck of a time getting off of it.. it is a narcotic but it does not produce a high.. IT is not cheap and most docs dont' take insurance only cash or credit cards.. I payed around 300 but I only went to the doc twice. Some want you to go more often. My doc said I was doing so well I didnt need to come back unless I wanted to. YOu can detox in 2 weeks easily..

Well.. I would find a addiction specialist.. see at least what your options are. There has to be some available other than methodone. which is a nasty drug.
Can you taper off of the oxy??  I know not many addicts can taper correctly but if its your only option to do on your own... Are there any detoxes??  Short term hospital type thing??

I wish I could say more to help but I am not familiar with what you have available there.. sorry..

If I can be of any help at all please post to me..

I used ultram successfully for withdrawals from vicodin.   It can leave you with withdrawals afterwards but not as bad as cold turkey.   I do not recommend taking it for more than 5-6 days and not more than 300 mg a day-------i took it 10 days and had withdrawals for about 3 days afterwards.  I think if i would have tapered off the ultram it would have been better for me but i didn't want to refill my script and take it longer.

good luck

hey buddy, what about tapering down (having someone help you maybe, by giving you your doses) then going cold turkey?

alot of us went c/t.  and while it wasn't fun, we did it... i did hydro's tho - i don't know about c/t from oxy... altho i'm sure some here could talk to you about that.

don't give up hope, sweety.. if there's a will, there's a way!!!

warmly,
mj

Yes thats the one, thank you very much.  Now how can i get prescribed for it ? the methadone doc. made do some blood work before i was on it and i had to go to a special clinic for it.  is it the same for suboxone? or can i just go to any walk in clinic and ask the doctor for it ?  im kinda worried they wont precribe it to me as i think its my only hope, but then again i dont see why they wont,  from blood work they can tell if im abusing the oxys or not right ?

Suboxone is the drug. I used it for a short term detox. I did very very well with it. It was a 10 day thing.. saw the doc the first two days. Pills were included in the cost for my doc.  I did LOTS of research on this b4 starting it.. so ask away..  I have been off now for 14 days.. feeling great..
