This may be a few things. A little anatomy 101 for you. The gallbladder is located in the right upper quadrant. It is kinda tucked behind the liver as the gallbladder stores bile that the liver produces. When we eat a fatty meal, the gallbladder contracts and squeezes out bile into our digestive tract to digest the fat. If your husband is having pain after he eats and if also the pain radiates to his chest, it could just be the gallbladder. Have him call the doctor to have a ultrasound performed to see if he has gallstones. Also, the doctor will also probably order bloodwork to check his liver enzymes etc. If the ultrasound is negative for gallstones, the doctor may also order what is called a HIDA scan which is a nuclear medicine test that checks the physiological aspect of the gallbladder. Basically, it tests to see if the gallbladder is "sluggish or lazy" thus producing pain. I read on another forum that has no scientific proof, anyway that people who take pain meds for chronic pain eventually have their gallbladder removed.Everyone was just chiming in on this forum and saying"hey yeah, my GB was removed after such and such years on morphine, lortabs etc". Let us know how he makes out and in the meantime, have him follow a low fat diet to not make that GB work too hard until he gets a diagnosis. My second thought was an inflammed liver though I highly doubt this. Keep thinking positive and try not to worry. BTW, gallstones can hurt at anytime not just after eating but usually intensifies after we eat.
6 weeks out I would guess it not becuse of withdrawl. He should go to the doctor and have it checked out being on the right side it could be alot of things
