pain in side and back

could my pain be from taking hydrocod/acet for headaches? does liver damage cause such horrendous pain? when i take a hydro i make sure i do a fiber drink and laxative so that i have a bowel movement. i have never done codeines in the amounts i've been reading, i could never find a doctor to give me so many, but now that i'm older it seems like when i do get a script i get this bad pain.

Pain in the abdomen radiating to the back after stomach or bowel stimulation is generally gallbladder with stones. Cholelithiasis. This pain will come and go and generally can be controlled by diet. I would stop the laxatives and fiber,  your issue might just be excess gas. Vicodin is not a good headache med. Not reason to take it for that. Try anacin. In the wall could refer to the irritation these laxatives are causing to the bowel was. Stop the hydro and the laxative and you should feel better soon. Good luck.

hydro was abbreviation for hydrocod/aceta 5-325mg. i don't take them everyday. only as needed. i have arthritus in my neck and in the summer months when the barometer goes up i get headaches so over the past few months i've taken some no more than 2 a week. and when ever i do i do laxative and fiber.i know from past use they do cause constipation. and that is one of the most mysterious parts of this pain it gets aggravated after my bowel movement. yes i,m still on amtryptylene.though it seems it stopped working all of a sudden.the dr never gave me a clear diagnosis.he mumbled once he thought it was in "the wall". i never asked for clarification.the amtriptylene started working and i stopped seeing the dr. i live in a small town and don't have good insurance so i try to just deal and don't go to dr alot. thanks for asking.   : )

It's only since 2013 that pure hydrcodone has become available (Zohydro)...is that what you were prescribed?

How much are you taking?  Also, are you still on the Elavil? (Amitriptyline.)

What did you doctor say the pain was from a few years ago?

thank you for your reply. i just stumbled on to this and am surprised that someone responded. i went the whole dr thing a couple years ago and nothing could be found out. a dr did put me on amtriptylene that made the pain go away. but i do get bad headaches and i got a dr to give me some hydro ( they aren't vicodins lower dose) and now this pain has came back and even worse now. thanks again.

Hi,

I'm a little unclear about your situation.  Are you wanting to get OFF the hydrocodone?  This is primarily a site for people are trying to get clean.

That being said, let me try and answer you as best I can.   I assume you are taking generic Vicodin, which contains both hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol).

The danger to your liver is not going to come from the hydro, it's going to come from the acetaminophen.    How much are you taking a day, and what are the strength of the pills?   The maximum dosage of acetaminophen for the body per day USED to be 4000 mgs, but it has been moved down to 3000 mgs.   That means if you go over that amount, you're stressing your liver.

Vicodin regular strength comes in 5/325; the second number is the acetaminpen.  If you took 10 pills a day, that would be 3250 mgs which is too much.

It's hard to say if you're having pain from liver issues or not; I don't know your general health history.  Do you drink alcohol?   Alcohol and acetaminophen are a really bad combination; they compete for excretion and can cause issues.

There are zillion others things that could be causing the pain, including gallbladder, GI inflammation, back issues, etc.

If you give me more info...how old are you, how long have you been using, and how much are you taking (and do you mix them with alcohol or other drugs) I might be able to give you a general sense of what is going on, but i am NOT a doctor, and cannot possibly give you a professional diagnosis.

My best advice, honey, is for you to tell your prescribing physician about the pain and get an evaluation.

Good luck.
