pain pump

pain pump

I am currently on Sub 8mg 3 x d & I feel great, really happy but it isn't controlling my back pain. My Dr suggested a morphine pump. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, I am olny suppose to take the SUB 3 x d but I usually end up taking 4 so I will run out to soon. That is what was happening with my oxy, perc, hydo, run out to early & withdrawl (withdrawal). Is that what is going to happen? How long will it be before it will start after taking my last dose? Since I have only been on it less than 3 weeks will the WDs be really bad? My Dr gave me a month RX so I don't see him again for a month. Should I call him? Will he give me more to make it rhtough? Will he stop seeing me? Does anyone know what makes me do this? I don't have cravings it's just a habit I guess, I mean when my back hurts I am use to just taking a pill or 2 or 3 or so & that is what I am doing now. It doesn't make me feel any different that I notice anyway. Has anyone else ever gone thru this on Sub?
Thanks!

You may have a high tolerence because of the pain. Why do you take sub for pain and why sub?. Doctors don't like to give more meds if you run out early of pain meds and can get in trouble with the DEA. I think morphine or dilaudid will work better for you in the IV pump. all the best

I have seen pain management Drs for yrs but after 8 yrs of taking basically the same thing the meds didn't work anymore. I tried to tell my dr several times but he wouldn't change anything. Ended up taking to many, running out & getting sick every month so then it became more about getting the pills any way I could so I wouldn't get sick. Now the dr I see is at a addiction recovery clinic but understands I have real pain that has to be managed too that is why he suggested the pump

You're an addict doing things an addict does. That's why you do all of this. Suboxone does alleviate some people's pain..some others get no relief. The addictive behavior you're exhibiting is evident in how you're taking the Sub. Even for pain management, doses over 4-8mg is just wasteful due to Sub's ceiling effect. That, and dosing frequently during the day is classic addictive behavior. Here's my suggestion..you have to decide on how you want to live life. The fact of the matter is that opiates are terrible for chronic pain because they eventually get to levels where they don't work. The morphine pump may work well, but if they give you anything for breakthrough pain you will abuse it. It's just what we addicts do. You need some sort of aftercare...or in this case..during care. There are detox facilities that are experienced with addicted chronic pain sufferers. You need to really discuss all options and decide a clear path that takes your addiction into account before you dig the hole even further.

Ga Guy is absolutely right.Opiates cause rebound pain. The more you take the more you need and after a while nothing seems to be enough. You have to think to yourself...what do I want..will i be able to cope with some pain between doses.if so perhaps you can stretch the time between opiate doses with extra strength ibuprofen and extrastrength tylenol till the next opiate dose. You are experiencing pain anyway and stretching your opiates is better than increasing them as infinitum.I really have no answer, but think sometimes that the attitude and approach to chronic pain is the answer to living with it..
