percocet addiction

I am new to this forum and looking for any help anyone can give me for what is scaring the living daylights out of me. A year ago november I was involved in a pretty bad car accident that left me with broken ribs and a knee that is completely out of whack. I have been taking 4-5mg percocets for pain, the first 5 months and am down to two a day. Somewhere along the line, I know I have become addicted to these horrible things and want to stop. I have been given tramacet for pain but am so fearful of how to wean off of these percocets. I don't even remember what it feels like to not be on them and want  my life back. I am also on pristiq for anxiety/panic attacks...I feel so fearful...

Yes!  Go ahead and jump from this dose and get it the heck over with!  Inside of a week you'll feel much better.

Prepare for this by getting a few things in advance:

Immodium
Gatorade
Super Snooze Melatonin
Multi vitamins

Post back with any questions~

Yep, I have to agree with IBKleen and gnarly - 10mg/day I would think is very doable for cold turkey.  The worst is over in three-four days and I bet with only that little amount daily in your system your withdrawals may not be too too bad.  I was taking quite a bit more than you - 120mg daily sometimes more and somehow I made it through ct wd's.  You can do it - it's the best thing to do.  Get off them now while you can - you've done the hard work already of weaning yourself down - now it's time for the final step.  Go for it!!   Good luck and post often.

Hi,

I was a on a 5-year run with percs due to injuries. If you cut yourself back to 2 pills a day, maybe you can cut yourself back even more.  One idea would be to cut your pills in halfs or even quarters and start lowering your dose and time between medicating. I went through another round of injuries recently and was provide hydros. I only have been taking quarters (a quarter of one pill) three times a day. I'll bring that dose down to once a day for a few days and the stop; withdrawals should be minimal.

I also exercise, eat right, plenty of fluids, etc...I think all of that helps as well.  You are doing well..congrats on recognizing the dangers to dependency/addiction.

Hey there, I wasn't going to post today cuz I'm in a funk. But i saw your post and it reminded me of the days when I was only taking 3-4 (7.5 lortab) a day. Long before I just started using opiates to get high. My Dr. had me on those for a almost a year and sometimes I would run out. Go 2-3 week stretches. I would lack energy and motivation along with some depression) but never really suffered. Everyone is different of course, but I'll bet your withdrawls are pretty light and not very long. If your down to 2 a day (10mg right?) you should be fine.

Like the poster drugadic says, stay off them. Don't wind up like so many of us.

Good luck

I am in a similar boat but I did it for no reason...I got on the pills for fun and it is anything but fun. My advice is to get off as quick as you can.  You don't wan't to end up like me and be in this boat 5 years from now. Go to your Doc and tell him your concerns. He can put you on something that isn't as potent and wean you down, you don't sound like an addict so dont turn into one.

Hi,

First off, calm yourself down. Breathe.

I hear wonderful things about the Pristiq so good for you if it is working. I need to suggest that you throw the Tram in the garbage. It is highly addictive and posses a whole new set of problems for you when going through withdrawal from them. And you will.

As far as the Percs...you are down low enough that you can jump off. You will feel withdrawal symptoms for about 5 to 7 days or so but it is very doable. You haven't been on them that long and that is in your favor.

So what do you think about that suggestion?
