In my experience with pain pills,Lortabs....you'll probably feel crappy and like you have a bad flu but if you can hang in there it'll be so worth it.I have been clean since June 11th,now,if I could only quit smoking!
Honestly,it was not as hard as I had imagined in my mind,we are stronger than we think, you can do this!!!

Hi!  Your doctor might give you some clonidine.  It is a BP med that will drastically reduce the withdrawals.  Even if he won't though, you can still get through it!  We will help to support you here on the forum.  It won't be easy, but it will be the most worthwhile thing you do for your health right now!

Good luck.  Let us know what the doc says!

Hi Lanshark and welcome to the forum.

You have made three big steps already. You've admitted this problem to yourself, you've admitted it to the online community, and now you're going to com clean to your doctor. Congratulations on those.

Your doctor may prescribe something to help with the withdrawals, but I'm not sure, as all doctors are different.

If you're going cold turkey, this is similar in some ways to a bad dose of the flu, and should be treated in the same way.

Useful things to minimise withdrawal symptoms are:

Paracetamol (Tylenol) and Ibuprofen (Advil) for aches and pains.
Travel sickness tablets for nausea (only take when needed as they can make your muscles twitch).
Imodium for diarrhoea
RLS tablets for restless legs.

You can get these from your pharmacy.

Valerian and Melatonin or 5HTP for anxiety and to help you sleep.
A good vitamin supplement.

You can get these from a healthfood store or online.

You should also get some bananas (good for potassium), apple juice or fresh orange juice,
gatorade and tonic water.

You may not need all of these if your doctor prescribes you something, or starts you on a taper but it's good to have them anyway. You can't get them in the middle of the night.

There are lots of other simple things you can do, but let us know what your doctor says and when you're going to start and we can let you know then.

Withdrawal is miserable, but so worth it in the end.

Do you have a good friend or family member to support you? It doesn't matter if you don't because you'll get plenty advice and support right here on the list.

Good luck, and post again soon.
