percocet detox: Day 2

I have been Addicted to Opiates for 5 months and am on a cold turkey detox. I was able to wean down a little bit but it felt like I was just dragging it out and decided I should just stop all together. Thank God that I have my wife and doctor helping me thru this hard time, they have been great. I am having a lot of emotions right now, as well as physical withdraw symptoms like; anxiety, racing heart, pain throughout my joints and body, diahrea, shakiness, and trouble thinking. I am doing this at home and so far I am 30 Hours without any Percocet. Any advice would be great. It is so difficult, and I just want it to be over.

this is a message for anyone addicted to any opiate i have been on many types of opiates ranging from hydrocodone"Vicodin" to hydromorphone hydrochloride "Dilaudid"  My drug of choice has always been Roxicet 30mg
20mg i have struggled for years now i just turned 28 woke up one morning and thought this is a joke and im a joke for doing this.. now this is a real problem if you have money to keep the drugs comming daily i would buy up to 70 80 30mg roxis a week ...ive tried to quit multiple times and have always failed. :-(
im going to give everyone the help i wish i had.. the BEST way to kick this habbit isnt cold turkey thats the last thing you want you if your doing a lot you will most likely fail for you guys on 5 10 mg a day for years cold turkey will be easy but if your doing 60mg a day and up then you need to follow this to the T..this has worked for me i was at about 120-180 mg of roxis DAILY. now its been a month and i am down to 15mg a day with no different feelings about it .. i want to cry just thinking of how many pills i have ingested over the years..estimation of 650,000$ i have wasted and i never got deals or stole it was all my own money so ***** real bad.
either way your best option is going to be to taper your dose..make a log of what you are doing daily drug intake smoking anything sleeping etc.
the key to kicking this or atleast getting down to a mg that will help you quit  without the bad withdrawals .. so depending on how you feel take what your daily intake is and divide it by 2x every 3 days
1st day 60mh 4th day 30mg 7th day 15mg and so on this is the key to successfully quitting and only this that has worked for me ...i was once at about 150mg daily of roxi now at 15mg daily and feel great ..This isnt a magical fix for a addict but has been for me ..i have 0 support, friends, family drugs and making money has been my only friend for last 4 years .. I WANT to help you if anyone needs to talk or needs just someone to listen you can email me or call me ..we can beat addiction together no matter who you are race sex etc. i dont care Jayforslay at aim and well talk
thanks for reading

looks like my outpatient rehab will include speaking with a counselor, individual therapy, and group therapy. I am looking forward to it, I just need the support in any way I can find. This is very difficult all around. Today is day 3 for me and it was a tough one so far. My body feels like completely worn out.... at least my emotions have seemed more controlled today, so that's good I guess. My prayers go out to you in your journey.

Mornin Slim, Absoultly you will be ready for work on Monday. You may not be your fresh eyed and bushy tailed self, but your manage just fine. In fact it will be a welcome distraction at that point. The key is….DON'T CAVE over the weekend or try to ward off any symptoms with "just one pill". Sometimes we get frustrated with what seems like the endless lingering symptoms and try to then intercept with another drug, alcohol, etc. Don't go there and by Monday you will be so proud of yourself. Heck by next Friday you'll be singing and grinning ear to ear on your way to work. Very, Very proud of ya.

Congrats on taking your life back! Stay busy try and exercise even if you just go for a walk:)
Take one day one moment at a time. Just get thru each day. I am glad you have support thats key , Have you looked into an aftercare program? It helped me alot. At first its hard talking to strangers but I found a small group and these people are my Rocks and we help each other everyday.
Drink plenty of water get those toxins out and a walk helps clear your mind and gets the endorphins going. Stay strong you can do this I promise you life is so much better without this hanging over your head counting pills feeling guilty take your life back!

You should be decent for work on Monday. I went back to work on day 6.
Wasn't easy at all. It was an odd long day, but I survived.....and you will too.in fact, being at work was a great distraction and on day 7, you'll want distraction.
Congrats on doing this!
I am 10 days clean now...working on 11.
I have looked at info on outpatient programs. If you don't mind saying, do you know what your will entail. I haven't put any calls in yet but was curious what it would involve. How long etc.
Keep truckin. You can do this!

Excellent Advice. I told my Doc to put me down as Allergic to Opiate Drugs like Vicodin and Percocet so that will cover that. I really and truly want these out of my life as I have always been so alive without them... I don't know where I went wrong here but I made some big mistakes. I must have been oblivious to these taking hold of me. One thing that I know for sure is that even in the short hours that I have been involved with this support community, I have received lots of great advice. Thank You & Thank You!

You're well into it now, so hang in there and it will soon start to lighten up. You got some great info above. I found that hot Epsom salts baths really help with quite a few withdrawal symptoms, especially muscle aches, anxiety and sleep. I'd wake up in the middle of the night with RLS and sleeplessness, hit the tub as hot as I could stand it and I'd find some relief for awhile. Sleep when you can. Know that sleep will return and it will be the right kind of sleep, rather than opiate induced sleep.

I went through detox three times. Slim, believe me, you only want to go through it once! Make sure you've completely cut off your supply; leaving no stone unturned. I went to my doctor and told him I was all done and don't want Vicodin anymore. He was my main source.

Keep posting!

Glad you've joined us....welcome welcome....I think tapering is much harder than cold turkey....too much temptation for me. I know you dont feel good at all.....just think of withdrawls as the flu....3 to five horrible days...most likely three. Im so proud youve envolved your wife and doctor. That took a lot of guts and courage but I know h9w important that support is.....plus its easier to regain trust issues back. talking to your wife and doctor is a wonderful accomplishment.  It will make you accountable. This will bring you4 marraige even stronger.....keep posting. Were here t9 help and suport.

Wow this is awesome! I am very familiar with the evil demon Percocet. That stuff really takes a hold of your life in a terrible way! You got very good advice above. Try to only use the Ativan at night to help you sleep and then only for a few days. You got this and we are here for you. Keep on keeping on!

I give you much credit for involving your wife. That has to greatly reduce your anxiety knowing your not alone. GREAT that your doing an outpatient treatment today. I'm sure that will also bring comfort and additional needed support. Don't pay attention to the emotions except to let em flow. If you can go for a car ride, put on some sad songs and ball your eyes out it really helps (trust me ) releases endorphins or something. All our feelings are magnified and I know feel like this dark hole won't end. IT WILL. Go with it. I don't have to tell you about the ativan being addicting right? Be sure to only take if you feel like you have to go to the ER if you don't and only for a week or less. That is a whole new can of whoop a** to deal with. Very proud your reclaiming the joy you deserve.

Thank you so much for your quick reply, I am really struggling today. I was on Percocet & Vicodin at the same time. Percocet 10's and vicodin 10's up to 50mg of Percocet per day and tapered a little bit over the last week. I found that tapering seemed to just prolong the pain so I decided to go cold turkey. My final dose was on Jan. 6th I took 1 Perc 10 over the course of that day and last dose was at 11:30PM on the 6th. I am starting an outpatient rehab today as I have had some problems with these pills about 5 years ago, so this is a relapse for me. I aslo have my wife right by my side. I am really battling the emotions right now bigtime! all physical problems don't seem to be quite that bad, just the RLS is annoying. Doctor gave me Ativan for the anxiety as she knows that I am doing this cold turkey. I am glad there is a group like this! I am going to need all the support that I can get right now.

Hi Slim and welcome to the forum. Yes, you are in the thick of it now. How cool is it that you've caught this problem with only 5 months in. Have you checked out the thomas recipe ? The emotions will be all over the place for the next few days. Try very hard to just compartmentalize them as "part of the process" and let the tears flow. As far as the physical everyone is different, but for me day 4 was a huge improvement and at day 9 I felt 80 percent better. Be sure to drink lots of fluid (I did watered down OJ), eat small meals if possible of toast, cream of wheat, lean protein, whatever you can get down. Stay as distracted and busy as you can manage. this will greatly lower the heart racing. Music, walks, hot baths. Don't worry about sleep right now. I promise that will return. Are you taking immodium? You'll need that. By the way, how many pills were you taking a day and what strength? Keep posting. Lots of very knowledgeable folks here to pull you along.
