percocet withdrawal

I am going to quit taking my medication tomorrow, I have been taking lortab and percocet for 2 years now.The first year I was taking lortab until it didnt work anymore, and I was taking 8-9 a day, then I told the dr. that I needed something stronger,so he gave me percocet 10/325.I was fine only taking about 3-4 a day,but it has progressed to about 6-7a day for almost a year now.I only have off from work tomorrow and I have 17 percocet left,is there a way for me to wean off with that little bit in able to go to work.On tuesday? And if at all possible I will need someone to talk to tomorrow because I start feeling withdrawal after a bout 8-10 hrs. without any meds. Also how long will it last?Ive heard people say that the worst part is the first 1-2 days then its manageable but you still feel crappy.

Carol has it down to the basics..Try reading some of the associated posts that are within 10 posts of this one. A couple others are a few hrs ahead of you, another a day, and a couple that are doing it together at 4 days..Whether its percocet or oxycontin, its pretty much the same...Try not to fear the process too much as Carl hints at but don't underestimate it either..It really does take 2 weeks to get somewhat back to normal with the 1st week being pretty rough..Especially the first 3 days...

Thank you for your posts everyone,it is a big help just knowing that you care enough to read the post and respond.I think I will call my dr. when they open this morning and talk to them. What I am afraid of is that they will just refill me with a different dose so that I dont go through withdrawal.Like me1025,I have a really hard time just taking half,I always end up telling myself "Im going to withdrawal anyways may as well enjoy it while I can" I know I need to be stronger than that.GACarol I think your right the anxiety sets in way before the withdrawal because we drive ourselves crazy with stress.I will keep you all posted after I talk to my dr. this morning. Thanks again sudie58,GACarol,andme1025,your replies help alot.I hope your doing ok me1025.

I'm going through the same thing right now, I took my last Oxy 5hrs ago and I have been on 120-160mg oxycodne plus 40mg oxycontin for the last 9yrs. I hear that tapering off is the best way, but as a former addict to coke i see it as i could never just do alittle coke so I don't see how I could do alittle oxy, but thats just me and i'm gonna do it cold turkey. I have previously tried a taper and was unsuccessful in it only because my underlying pain issues were so bad that i couldn't tolerate both the pain of withdrawal combined with the pain that the meds were treating. Just remember your not in this alone, hang in there and know i\I'll be doing it right along with you!

I would have to say my worst day mentally was day 1 and then physically was day 3 & 4. If you can taper than do it. Most of us can't. When I did my taper I just cut it in 1/2 everyday until I was down to tiny pieces. I had to talk to myself each time and say I am taking this so I don't get sick, not to get high. The self talking helped. It's going to be hard but a lot of us make it harder by stressing so much about it before hand. You just have to do it and know it will be hard. Hope for the best. Personally I made it much worse in my mind than it turned out to be. Stick with us here and give us updates.

i am not an expert on percocet, but i have withdrawn from codeine and also benzos,
there are others who are more knowledgable on it, and i am sure they will get to your post and help you, in the mean time i didnt want you to not have any replies at all for a while.
i tapered my doses gradually and i believe that is the best way.  youve been on them for quite a while so i think your withdrawal symptons will probably last longer than 1 or 2 days. the worse ones usually take 7/10 days , and it does get easier then . if you have a read of other posts on here you will find a lot of information and a lot of answers to your questions. it would be better if you could get a bit longer off work , im not sure if you know the symptons you will go through , such as sleeplessness, restless legs, headaches, etc, symptons do vary from person to person. i havent been much help, but i really wish you well, you can do it and it is definately worth it to be clean and drug free. i will look in later on and see if youve got any more replies, if not ,ill write again, look after yourself,
best wishes sudie
