perscription diet pill amphetamine

by Linda, Dec 25, 1999 12:00AM
I have not   taken a diet pill in 2 months, I had tapered down to a quarter of a pill (didrex )and then stopped  due to a nervous feeling and shakyness.  For many years I took this pill first for weight loss and then because it offered me a clarity and alertness I was so used to from taking it., I never realized that I was taking an up to be UP.  I read that this drug can also be used to treat depression. I never took more than 1 pill a day and sometimes   i would take a half. Now without the diet pill I cant sleep well and developed a feeling of shakyness and panicy  at times and at times depressed.  Will these symptoms pass or has my brain chemistry changed.  I am in full blown  menopause and am very symptomatic from that.  I will not take this pill anymore but it is amphetamine family and I need to know if what I am experiencing will pass . anyone stopping  amphetamine , diet pill successfully .  What frightens me the most is that what Ive read about cesation of the drug after long term use, mental depression and could it be temporary or permanent.
thanks

I'm concerned with the pills my fiancee has recieved from her doctor. The concern is with the reaction she has to them and then she says she hasn't taken any like I can't tell which is like saying I'm stupid. She has an overactive thyroid and also a fracture. The tylinol 3 I'm familiar with but the rest I'm not. These include tapozole (also labelled methimazole ), macrobid (also labelled nitrofurantoin macrocrys), oxycocet (also labelled oxycodone & acetaminophen) and novo-lorazepam (also labelled lorazepam ). She sometimes becomes spaced out and vomits for no reason, I mentioned it to her and now I notice she has anti vomit type pills. I just want to know what these pills are in laymans terms if you can help it would be appreciated.

Isn't amphetamine illegal??

Methimazole is to treat the over active thyroid, if she has an over active thyroid she needs it believe me I would jump out of my skin without the methimzole, but she should be having blood tests also with that medication to monitor it.  Macrobid is an antibiotic usually used to treat bladder infections, oxycodone is pain medication and I think very addictive, and acetaminophen is the active pain medication in tylenol and other non-asprin medication, I don't know what lorazepam is, but I'm sure you could ask any pharmacist, and amphetamine I think is only illegal if purchased on the street, I do believe a Dr, can prescripe medications with amphetamine in them, but again ask a pharmacist, it would no doubt be considered a controlled substance.
