please help me if you can

I am very addicted to hydrocodone. I fell in 2001 and on that day I took my first pain pill, never knowing what my life was going to become. I am a nurse and I should have known better.  I had a  fracture in my scaral area, herniated disc, and pinched nerve. I just keep going to a pain management Dr. To make my story short I have got up to 28-30 pills aday. This is horrible. It went from 3 aday would'nt help to 4 aday and on and on. This has been over eight years. I have tried to get off the meds. even to a point of going to pain mgmt. MD that did the Suboxone to just get off the stuff. He saw that I still had severe back pain so he started me on even stronger stuff. I was scheduled for appointment last Monday to get my refill. I was called the day before and was told the FEDS had come in  and he could no longer write pain meds. What to do????  I had 1 last refill on a old Norco script. I will be totally out FRI. I have tried to get in to other pain mgmt DR. but no one is taking new patients. I have tried to stop before and the withdrawl is terrible. I am so afraid I dont know what to do. I never  meant to do this but it is my fault. I am sitting here hurting so bad but I have to make my few pills last as long as possible. Please help with any suggestions.

Hi Precious.. I just read your new thread..You have all the information on this one :) taking this many pills a day is not normal and I really do not know how your pain levels can be checked when on this high of a dose.. I also live with chronic pain and it can be severe.. I have found a lot of it has lightened up after a few weeks of getting off the meds.. The pain of my addiction was much more severe for me emotionally not to mention what it did to my kidney and liver.. Although I do not know what the harder med you were taking is.. you have lowered to the Norco.. this is what I kicked off of ct. I was taking 25 to 30 a day.. It is hard I will admit but I had to put myself in the frame of mind that I was going to war on my addiction.. either I was going to kill it our it was going to kill me.. If you are really wanting off and wanting to find out your true pain levels.. you have to face a wd our find a new pain management Dr. If you choose wd.. You will get a lot of support.. read the forum there are many things you can do to help you through the physical and mental.. Your best defense is your very own mind.. for it can be very powerful when used in this war.. Your life is waiting and the opiates are stealing your desire.. Fight back if through sub so be it but fight for yourself and we will fight with you... I wish you well on your journey.. lesa

Welcome to the forums first of all. It looks like you're trying to take the first step to your recovery in order to get your life back like the rest of us. I have to ask, and I'm sorry to do this... But do you really want to get off of the pills or are you just looking for another doctor and are asking us what ways you should go about going to another doctor. Do you really think that the FEDS had come into his office? In my past experiences, I've learned that doctors WILL lie to their patients [even though that shouldn't be doing this] and say whatever they need to just to stop prescribing medicines that way they don't get in trouble later on down the road. Just a few months ago, there was a law that was passed that has really put the fear of God into a lot of these doctors, and even though I'm only on day one and a half of being sober from these pills, I am VERY grateful to whoever passed this law.

Keep posting here, but definately let us know what you'd really like to do at this time. It is my opinion that if you really want to get off the pills, you need not to go to another pain management doctor. You even said so yourself that the doctors you've been going to just try to give you something much stronger.

I think your best option is to find a doctor that prescribes Sub. Many Sub doctors are not necessarily pain management doctors. Call and explain your situation...they should see you fairly quickly if you explain the situation. From there you can find another pain management doctor.
