positive post

i guess this post is for everyone out there reading through this site wondering if there's any hope... just like i was for years before i finally decided to commit to quitting opiates.

i just want to say that i was doing a ridiculous amount of pills... to the point i thought i'd never see another clean day again for the rest of my life.  i was scared, anxious, and depressed.  i had gotten myself to the point where the withdrawals were just too intense and scary.  well that's all part of the psychological game that is opiate addiction... this addiction wants to keep you.  but to everyone browsing these posts wondering if there's a way out... there definitely is.  and it starts just like this.. gathering information, especially from people that have gone through what you know you have to go through.  we all lived through it and are much better for it... and you can do it too.  just stay with the pack... the ones that stay on the outskirts of the pack are the ones that tend to get picked off by the lion.  make the commitment and get your life back... the withdrawals will be over soon. there is hope.

I love your analogy of "staying with the pack" because those that don't get picked off by the lion! I'm so glad to read your post and learn of your recovery time---that's the most positive post there is to someone that's suffering the throes of withdrawal or is so full of anxiety that they are scared to death to even try. You may unknowingly be the person that convinces somebody to take that big leap of faith. Thank you for a wonderful post!

Bravo Norcomonster!!! Well said!! A post like this is needed more often especially for the ones just starting on this journey, and those who are considering it. This is a lifelong battle and one that is not won in 1 day. It takes tremendous effort, especially in the beginning. But I feel once you've gotten over the physical withdrawls, you are much more prepared for the mental ones. But,NEVER let your guard down,no matter how many clean days you have!! It's been a little over a year for me,however I had relapsed twice before after having the same amount of clean time. Relapse is a scary, real, truth to this battle. To those who may have slipped,it's done. It's over. Time to pick yourself back up and start fighting again!! We're all in this together, and nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Stay strong everyone, and guard up!!

Great post.....I think that more people like you that have made it through and have some serious clean time under your belt to share your success stories!  I do not post as much on the open forum and usually talk to people via private message but I try to tell as many as I can find that you HAVE to give sobriety more than a couple of weeks.  I truly believe that for most people the magic date is 30 days....Most people are 85-90% better at that point.  I am not going to lie that those 30 days feel like 6 months but you have to give it more time than just a week or two to see what life sober is really like.

Congrats on the clean time and I think more people should post their successes......Thank you!
