pregnancy and addiction

I'm not mentally addicted but I have pain. I just got off morphine a few months ago now I want to get off norco 10s I used to take 2 a day and I'm down to 3/4 of a pill a day. After I get off I want to get pregnant but I'm scared that I will hurt too much to stop. They also say not to take advil during pregnancy and that's the only other thing that helps. If I have to take a pill every now and then will my baby be born addicted?

Thank you for standing up for me. No, I'm not an addict I just thought people that knew more about opiates than me might know the answer to my question.

She says she's not an addict and she doesn't seem to be based on her use. She has a legitimate question but one better posed to her OB/GYN who would be responsible for any pain management.

call me evil. my opinion is to get off all drugs and confronting what got you into a drug addiction to begin with then see about having a baby

There is shere the problem lies. You need to be honest with your OBGYN once you get one, that you are being prescribed meds from your regular doctor. In the event that something should happen, it is best to be honest as they know how to deal with these situations.

As long as you are honest with your doctor you will be fine.  Usually the ones in trouble are the ones who dont get them from the doctor and dont tell them.

I would get all the meds out of your system and see where your pain level is at before you get pregnant.  Talk to your doctor and tell him/her your concerns with handling the pain.  Have you been on pain meds for a long time?

HI & Welcome,

You are on a low dose and if you take this dose during pregnancy the baby may or not be born addicted. There are so many other things to be concerned about such as will they do a drug test after you give birth. Your best best....always to get honest. Get honest with your prescribing physician now and with your OBGYN, especially, when you become pregnant. Let us know how you think you will proceed. We are here to support you.
