pregnant

i am 36 weeks pregnant and have been taking percocet/ oxycodone my whole pregnancy. They are perscribed by my doctor for my migraines. My concern is if my baby will go through withdrawal. I'm really worried cause i take 5mgs 3 sometimes 4 a day. I need to know if social services are going to step in and take my baby away because of the amount of percocet i've been taking. Do they test you for the level of narcotics you are taking or just to see if its there? I'm stressing myself so much over this but sometimes its impossible to take less because of the pain. Please someone tell me if they test the levels of whats in your system. and my px does say every eight hrs or as needed....

You know, when I see opiate/pregnancy advice on here I can picture the person on the other end saying, "yeah right!  I'm not telling anyone, they're gonna put me in jail and take my baby away"! But in your case, you are not taking an unreasonable amount of percocet so I don't think it's really gonna raise any eyebrows.  You should feel comfortable talking to a doctor about it.  What do you think they're going to tell you though?  Oh...3 or 4 a day?  That's not enough I think you should up your dose to 8.  No! They're just going to tell you slow down, which is what you know you should be doing.  Maybe they'll make you stop completely and cut you off, which is really what you know you should be doing.  Just remember your baby gets a little bit of everything you put into your body, so do think it's a good idea feeding it 3 or 4 percocets a day?  Of course you don't, so do your best to stop and if you can't do your best to cut back.  You are almost due though so it is definitely in your baby's best interest that you tell them about it, because if god forbid he/she is born addicted they need to know so they can reduce his/her suffering.

In the scheme of things, your dose is relatively low, but from here on out you should try to cut down as much as possible. If these meds are prescribed for you and you're taking them exactly as prescribed, you shouldn't have a problem with social services. It's extremely important, however, that you're absolutely truthful, so IF your baby has a problem, they'll be prepared and will be able to help as best as possible. At your next OB appointment, I think you should just let your doctor know the situation. And when you get to the hospital, let them know when they do the intake.

Good luck to you. Please try not to stress about this too much. The stress affects your baby as much as your meds do.
