tell the clinic that you are pregnant, they will stop your detox as you must be maintained on methadone while you are pregnant. I have had friends that had to have there dose lowered to 30mg but they were always advised by the DR that she had to stay on methadone while pregnant, Contact your PCP or OB asap and let them know whats going on---Noah

You are fine to be on methadone while pregnant.  I have a 2-year-old daughter who is a methadone baby.  I was on 40 mg of methadone 3 times a day when I became pregnant.  I weaned down slowly throughout the pregnancy, but you need to tell your OB and your other physician needs to know as well that you are pregnant so they can coordinate your care.  I finally weaned myself down to 2.5 mg twice a day, and then once a day.  If I can do it, so can you.  Then for the last 2-3 weeks, I did not take the methadone as I did not want the baby to withdraw at all, which they are not supposed to withdraw from the methadone unless you are taking more than 20 mg daily, but that does not mean they cannot.  So, to be on the safe side, I stopped altogether.  I had a rough week or two, but I will tell you, when I went in to have my baby, I had a planned C-section and it was great after the surgery because I was put on morphine or demerol all that day.  But, then I took Tylenol 3 while in the hospital recovering.  Once out of the hospital, I asked to be put on Ultram and I was fine.  Anything was better than feeling creepy, because I withdrew from methadone for around 6 months.  You need to go on something as soon as you can after you have the baby, and you do not have to breastfeed, you have been through enough with this pregnancy and the methadone.

Hope this helps.

i don't know where you are or your circumstances but you should try to talk to someone before you try to detox while pregnant, cause you are on such a low dose, i am guessing they might say you are ok to keep going down, but if you want to and if you feel ok. but if you feel withdrawals, no way to really know how much the baby feels. i don't think its good to do any major changes during 1st trimester. you might also need more methadone during last trimester, every case is different, i was on 100mg daily when i found out i was pregnant and was on 120mg daily when i gave birth to my daughter. she had no withdrawals that were noticed or needed meds, the drs did keep eye on her for signs but nada. we went home after three days and she was fine. also try to breastfeed if you can, its always good for baby and helps you possibly lose weight gained during pregnancy and its free, formula is very expensive stuff. you'll have plenty of other things to spend that money on. it didn't work out for us but if i had to do again that way i still would've tried. good luck and congrats
