Why would you be hurt? If your doctor and OBGYN knows about the methadone, they would be checking to see what levels are in the baby, and to make sure the baby is OK and what special care if any it needs. This is a good thing. The only reason that I would be concerned is if I was taking something that the doctors are not aware of, or if I was taking a different dose of the methadone than I was prescribed. Honestly, what surprises me is that they had to get your permission to test the baby. I would have thought they could test regardless. Don't worry or be hurt. They only want the best thing for the baby, the same as you do. You say you are proud of the work you have done on your addiction, and that will be confirmed with your baby's test.
Take care, and best wishes for you and the baby.
Dont be hurt, they have to test the baby for medical reasons n to make sure if the baby has anything in its system then they can wean it off. You wouldn't want your newborn going through severe withdrawals would you??
Plus all your doctors know so you have nothing to hide
I was on Percocet all throughout my pregnancy n they tested my baby. She had nothing in her system n was 100% healthy, but I'm very glad they did all tests just in case.
I'm due very soon 5 weeks. I am perscribed methadone. Under a doctors care. My obgyn knows. Therefore I was sent to a specialist who will help any symptoms my baby may have. It was him who told me they want my permission to test my baby. I was hurt. It has been a hard battle with addiction. I am proud that I have been clean this whole time and wikl keep going. I was hurt they asked to test for illegal drugs.
Can you give us some more details please?
Simply because? I haven't been thru it but I'm SURE they would want to test your baby to make sure everything is ok! How far along are you? Are you under a doctors care? Prescribed methadone? Your obgyn knows? Can u let us know a little more?
