question about suboxone treatment?

by basslover79, Nov 30, 2008 01:28PM
I have been taking suboxone for seven or eight days. and I was on methadone 5mg. but I was wondering how long would it take for the methadone to get out of my system , so that if I were to start detoxing off of the sub. would I still withdrawl from methadone too? do I need to take the sub for a few more weeks and then try ? Also I have been on methadone for almost 4 years straight.
            thanks,

Hi Basslover --- You were on a very low dose of Methadone -- and you didn't say how much Sub you are taking.  A good rule for taking Sub is "less is better".  I would suggest you go to the Health Pages - above on this sheet and then look for a post titled "Members Experiences Coming off of Suboxone" -- It is written by many members who used Sub ---  If you can handle it, I think coming off of Sub will cause fewer W/D's if you stay on it no more than 10 to 14 days - but that is just my opinion.  Wish you all the best in getting clean.

make sure you level off after every taper for 5 days so you know if you will have w/d and try to only cut 2mg at a time unless your at a very high dose anything 16mg or over if you are you can try 4mg for your 1st drop. methadone is sneaky you never know how long it will take it stores up in your fat cells and you can feel the effects for many months after you detox but your daily dose was very low compared to most so its unpredictable. Are you under a drs care or getting it from the street? if under drs care try talking to your dr about tapering.

Yeah, I get it from dr. and I am on 2mg. day. I have been taking sub. for about 2 weeks now, and I have never felt better. well, since i have been taking the methadone I have not felt this good.
I am really trying to tell myself not to get hooked on the sub too. But it is hard.
Oh yeah, I was wondering if anyone else has to go to some kind of meetings at the dr. office who prescribes the subs. my counseler told me that all the sub clinics are going to have to start doing it or they will get shut down. next week will be my first meeting with a group , I hope it helps.
To all the people trying to switch from methadone to sub. It is hard at first to get used to something different , but I really think it is worth it. I never thought i would quit taking meth. but when I got to a low mg. it really wasnt that bad when I switched. just a little scary at first. but then I loved the new me!

Thanks evryone for talking to me!

chris                              And I hope evryone on here   beats the addiction!!
