questions about ultram/tramadol

Hello all..I have not been on this site in a little while. Back in oct. I got clean off viks I was up to 8-10 a day at my worst.I started it for sever chronic pain. Years later led to a bad addiction although I don't drink a lot when I do it is can be very outta control. So I stoped the pills..drank accasionally but after the pills when I did drink it became even worse as far as how the alcohol affected me. I would have blackouts everythime..outta control behavor ect. Everyone said when I get clean and after awile u go back to normal. With me not so much the case. I really think I depleated the chemicals in my brain as far as the seritona. I suffer from bad anxoity attacts now. Dizzyness..depression..mood swings..concentration. Its hard for me to walk into a room a people..the room starts spinning and I feel as if I will pass out. I have used a few viks in the past week..although not like it did I took one one day and one a few days later. And I feel back to normal. Like it gave my brain the chemicals needed? Yes I know prob a really bad idea. So my question is my dr just prescribed me tramadol/ultram today. I haven't filled it yet. Is it an "opiot" my dr said it is not and not addictive. It will just help with the pain. Dose it give u that feeling viks do?? Is that why it is bad for us addicts to take???? Iam so confused on both that and while my brain won't go back to normal?? Plz help if u have answers!..thanks.Marie :)

They say its not addictive because it doesn't give you the same high.  However, because it is a synthetic opiod and due to its chemical make-up, it works as a sort of anti-depressant, increasing the amount of seratonin in your brain. So when your tolerance has built up and you have to wean off of them, not only are you fighting the opiate withdrawl, but also your seratonin levels will be even more depleted and nonrenewing.

Have you ever talked to your doctor about anti-depressants? Just a thought. Hang in there, maybe (if you haven't already) try to make a meeting or two and see if that helps. We'll be here! Good luck.

Please don't take the tramadol.  It is a horrible drug to try to stop.  It does not give a high like vicodin, but it is very addictive!  VERY addictive and takes a long time to get back to normal after taking over a period of time.  Your doctor is negligent by telling you that it isn't addictive!

you seem to know that they are bad for addicts yes they are VERY addictive and they are Hel l to come off of .I would not fill that script its a synthetic opiate there are so many that have suffered because of this drug . What recovery care are you getting BTW if you use alcohol you are really a risk of seizures it you take tramadol
