sleeping pills

Well, i made it through the hydrocodone addiction and the suboxone withdrawals, almost 3 mos. now.  But, i am so concerned about my sleep and the amound of ambien cr and lunesta i am taking.
I have to have 4 a night just to get 6 to 7 hours sleep.  I feel like I am in big trouble here.  Anyone have any input?  I am calling my Dr. today and making an appt.  I have got to do something, and i sure do hate not to have any sleep.  On those nights >>the next day i am a zombie.  I am going to ask her about restoril, which i know is stronger, but maybe 1 pill will do me.  What has happened to me?  I also have decided no more wine for me.  I have an addictive personality no doubt.  i never cared about drinking the whole time i was on hydrocodone and now i don't much, but if i start i don't know when to stop.  But, i can't do without SLEEP.  Help.  TJack

It was too high of a dose for you would be my guess.  When you stopped you had no wds?  I wish i could say the same.

The question on the honey?   It is high in melatonin is what my hubby's doctor told me.  She also said i'd have to eat about a cup a day to benefit.

David, i wanted to tell you i don't take lunesta and ambien cr together.  Just whichever script i am taking at the time.  So my next full script will be the one i will taper with.  Since some nights i take 4 and some days i take 2 to get a nap, how would you suggest I do this?  Thanks. TJack

Hi. Suboxone was a HORROR for me. I was on 24mg for 3 days and felt like hell. I just stopped on day 4 and didn't experience any w/d's. But it did help getting off Oxy's.

I just read your post, twice.   Do you ever make sense to me!!
Thank you so much.  I know you are right.  I keep ordering this and that.  Now i have lemon balm extract pills coming.   What a mess i have going here.  I definitely need to get back to the Y and swim those laps.  I use to do it 3 to 4 mornings a week.  Also walk the treadmill.  I take a b 12 shot every week and take b complex vitamins also, so guess i am okay on that.  I just really appreciate your advice.  You have been through it so that makes all the difference.  I see my dr. next week and i will tell her of my plan to taper off the sleepers.  She has mentioned it to me before, but it was like a in the future thing.  Well the future has arrived.  Thanks David.   TJack

You really need to address the issue with these types of drug. They are only helpful(without a large payback) if used for a very short time frame. Your doctor should have expressed the penalty of useing the drug for a longer period of time and of course the dose. If you jump to a benzo then your headed for a much more serious problem. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE! Sorry to put it to you so harsh, but that's the facts. You seem to be a  strong person, so I would say the only right and best way to tackle this is to :

1. start with a slow taper of the lunesta
2. then a very slow taper of the ambien cr

It won't be a walk in the park, but if you do this method it will be much more bearable (experience talks here because I tried it in many ways) during my process I would try things such as melatonin, valarian, chamomile etc. and they just aggrevaited me. For me what work was the slow taper and letting my body get so tired that, in time I started to slowly get cat naps, here and there. Everytime I tried to take something to induce sleep, it just make it worst. Slow taper and time is the key to this problem. The slow taper of each of these drugs will make the rebound insomia a whole lot easier to deal with. Another thing, of great value was B1 and B12 during the day. I know what it's like to go without a oz. of sleep for weeks. It makes you feel spaced out and sick , but from reading your post I gather that you are strong minded enough to this one. Stay focused on your taper course, even if you start to lose some of your zzz's. And don't jump off until your at a very small dose (of each one at a time) And don't try to rush it up! Once your taper of both drugs are complete and you are taking the b1 and b12 then start walking, jogging etc. to get your endorphins stimulated. This whole process worked for me, with a great outcome!!!

Hi Ruby,  thanks, i have tried the honey.  It is suppose to be high in melatonin.  Yes, i did use suboxone for 24 days to come off of hydrocodone.  But, the withdrawals from suboxone were awful.
I wa a mess for over 2 weeks and actually not myself for 2 months or more.  It has been almost 3 mos. since i ended the sub.
Hope the subutex works good for you, as the suboxone did work great until i tapered off.  It was way too fast of a taper. I was in a sub study through adapt and they told me i was one of their only people who succeeded.  But, it was not easy.  The anxiety and depression was unreal after my last sub.  Good wishes and keep updating so i know how you are doing. How long will you be on the sub? TJack
Oh and thanks again for the good posts and about the honey.

Did you use the suboxone to come off of the hydrocodone? I'm currently taking subutex to fight an oxycodone addiction?

If you can beat opiates, you must feel like you can beat anything. In terms of sleep, I know this sounds kinda silly, but try a large tablespoon or two of honey, take it straight or mix it in warm milk. Honestly, just try it!

I am taking 5 mg of melatonin a night.  Have also tried the valerian root.  I did some reading today about Lemon balm extract and am hitting the vit. store tomorrow for some of it.  I am just so upset over taking so many of these lunesta and ambien crs.  I have built up a tolerance for them i am sure.  But, do not want to go on a benzo, and get hooked on them.  Thank you for always being so encouraging and a positive influence on this board.  I appreciate your post.   Do you think if i quit taking the sleeping pills and just went without sleep until i dropped i would make it and how long would it take?  That is so scarey to me.   I don't function well without sleep.
Thanks so much.  TJack
