so many meds and so little knowledge!

so many meds and so little knowledge!

After reading some of the forum I really got scared! I have Asthma,Border line personality disorder, fibromyalga (fibromyalgia),chronic headaches,GERD and a past history of drug and alcohol abuse.
                   My doc knows all this yet he perscribes all of the following:1.mepragan 50-25 2.feuracet 3.xanax 4.zoloft 5.prilosec 6.lipator 7.singular 8.tamazapam 9.resteril.
To me this seems like a very dangerous situation I'm in! The headaches are very bad and often, so I take many of these daily. The fybromyalga comes and goes in it's severity.
Please if you can help me understand what all this can do to me and give alternative choices I would be very greatful.
                                 thank-you

Hi Kathy,
It gets crazy taking all those meds! I have Fibro, Chronic Headaches, High Blood Pressure (they say from chronic pain from fibro).  I take Oxycontin, Percoset for breakthrough pain. I also take Lotensin for Blood Pressure. Just started Zoloft for depression. Levlite for PMS (Birth conrol pill) AND also thyroid medicine. As needed I have Xanax (I think that stuff is gross) and the Fioracet for the start of the headaches. I know that the person who takes the least medications does not win (that is what my stress counselor had told me) but I feel like I take as many meds as my sister does who has had a kidney pancreas transplant recently. I also compliment my medications with Acupunture, meditation, massage, Yoga, magnetic bracelets whatever. Sometimes I would just like to take a vacation from all the meds. I tell my husband that I am a different definition of a "High Maintenance Woman". I love the acupuncture and massage even if it is a temporary fix it is great to be at peace for a little while.  I wish you all the luck in the world!
Keep in touch Kathy!
Shelly.

Because of your complicated medical/psychological conditions, I would not presume to comment on your treatment other than to say you raise good questions and perhaps should seek a second opinion on your treatment from another physician.

Look into some holistic health remedys to offset some of the many drugs you're taking.  Through diet and the right vatimins supplements you may be able to reduce the number of perscription drugs your taking.  See a good dietician.  There's not anything wrong with taking several perscription drugs. If the drugs don't contridict eachother.  It depends on your medical history and personal make up.  Get a doctor you trust.  If you have questions about your doctor, go to another for a second opinion.

Good luck.
