starting Day 5 - when will it be over?

Hello everyone...

Hubby is starting Day 5 today and I was wondering if anyone knew, on average, when we'll be out of the woods yet? I'm just a little worried because he has been taking clonazepam and if/when he runs out of those his WDs come back... so I guess I want to know when is it "safe" for him to stop the clonazepam? When will the WDs go away from the percocets? Anyone have an idea? I know there's no one answer or solution to this, I just need to know a rough idea... if you can, Thanks!

Hi Jester - the severity and lenght of w/d depends on the does upon quitting and how long he has been taking the meds.  Typically, the withdrawal from percocets lasts about 5-7 days and usually the worst day is day 4, so your husband should be over the worst part and should start to feeling better.  If he is taking clonazepam, that will help, but he also needs to be careful with how long he takes that because that is addictive as well.  He should only that the clonazepam through the detox and that's it.  Anyway Jester, you should start to see some improvment with your husband.  You are the best thing for him  and should be commended for giving him your support.  Hang in there, it will be over very soon.

Jester, forgot to ask you if your husband is getting any other treatment such as therapy or aftercare?  This will be very important for him once he completes the detox period.  Posting here, therapy, and AA/NA meetings will keep him deal with the causes for his addiction and the challenges that he will be faced with once he is clean.  Take Care.

SALSINATOR: he was taking about 30 perc's a day, and as for the oxy's I couldn't say, but upwards of 200-400mg a day (not together, but a combination of both sometimes)... he heard that day 2 was the worst so he thought he was past the hard part on Thursday (I think this is partly a subconscience thing for him - to believe one day over another, but it doesn't matter)... we know that clonazepam is addictive, and right now his out is that he took it years ago for his panic attacks and was able to quit without problems before - it also helps with his anxiety so he feels he might want to continue it after wards any ways, but of course as directed... I am seeing a difference in him, but I fear he is substituting (I also think my mom has put ideas in my head about that) as he takes more than prescribed and he's started to drink (my mom is VERY bias against alcohol due to an alcoholic father and husband, my step-dad)... not to toot my own horn, but I know he couldn't have done this without me (he also tells me this every day) - we have little to no friends and his parents are completely unsupportive...

thanks for the info

AVISG: I know that clonazepam can be dangerous and after putting some thought into (when writing about his plans to continue due to anxiety) I've decided that I should do some more research of my own to see if he really needs it or something else... I know he needs to have an assessment done as he suffers from depression as well and probably PTSD, too

thanks for your concern, avisg... I like hearing from you  :)

Hi Jester - Your husband is so lucky to have you supporting and understanding what he is going through.  His habit was a pretty good one, so good on your husband for wanting to quit and good on you for helping him through each hour of the day.  Keep moving in the right direction, you both can get through this and will be glad you did.  I am lucky to have a very supportive room mate and family, I could not have done it without them either.  I know that your husband appreciates everything you are doing for him.  When he is clean, he will be able to show you just how much.  Thanks for continuing to post.
