struggling with taper

by gnarly_1, Oct 06, 2009 01:42PM
well its been a long 8 1/2 month ride from 150mg methadone down to 2mg of methadone
I was told my taper was to fast at every 72hr so ive up it to 6 days but when i drop down
its like getting hit by a truck, first the anxiety then the restless leg thing, tired ,
achy  bones and the lack of energy is debilitating...it like living in withdrawals
that never end , each drop is 4 days of he11 to pay and just about the time I
get to just 'OK' ive got to drop again.... I was dropping at 10% every72hr but now
the drops are much larger last one was 1/3rd next one will be 1/2 or 50% and im not
looking forward to it...right now i sit here typing with all of the above feelings
its day 2 form my last taper am I doing this to fast?? or is 1mg a week
ok as for a taper secedual /?? i guess im looking for a more painless
way of doing this is there one??or is this just the way it is going to be
I guess on the bright side im only 2 weeks away form being methadone free
but i could shure use some incoragment  for now your freind and fellow addict Gnarly

I dont know a whole lot about tapers- I just up and did it CT one day!  But I do know that the idea of a taper is to cut down in such a way as to avoid the really hard WD symptoms.  Of couse- everyone's taper will be different, depending on what they were using and for how long.  But to me, it seems that maybe you are tapering a little too quickly.  I mean- afterall, the whole idea it to not feel like sh*t the WHOLE time you are doing it.....to cut back a little, let your body get used to it, and then cut back a little more...and so on.

I'm sure that someone else will chime in soon with a little more experience as far as tapering goes.  Just hang in there.  People quit every day, and you can do it too!
