well i was taking just as much hydro as you and i started the sub at 4mg daily felt great. stayed there for about six weeks and am now taking 2mg. i will taper down from there and hopefully be off the stuff SOON!
For this 1st week - knowing what you were taking - I'd think it would take 12 to 16mg per day to really do the trick. You want to feel really ok - like going to work is no prob. Then the taper, if you do like 2mg a week, should hardly be a problem at all (for the first few weeks at least).
tell your doctor. I've relapsed early in treatment and have used more than prescribed (stupid addict mentality) and as much as my dr is a jerk, he didn't kick me off. It may mean you need your dose adjusted. don't pretend everything is ok if it isn't. You are supposed to be working on breaking all your bad habits. Lying to dr's is one of them. You must come clean.
Sorry about the blank.....just browsing around and had to post. I got on to suboxone during inpatient treatment four months ago. I have done great with it until this last script. i go to the doc. once a month in conj. w/ outpatient treatment. I started taking a little more some days, so now, obviously; i cut myself short. i am at day 5 with 5 to go. I want to be open and honest with my doc. so bad, but other posts have scared me off from doing that, because others said they were kicked off treatment. A very scary thought. Some say that the w/d effects aren't nearly as bad as full agonists. But, for me; i have done them all, even the methadone and felt the effects of w/d symptoms from them all. But today is today; and i feel bad! Can't sleep well, upset stomach, aches, etc... I feel for all who have gone/going throuogh this. Good luck to all of you; and keep the consequences in mind. It is damn hard. I knnow my addiction very well, but I can't outsmart it. It will always be there. i am a h.s/college grad..this disease does not discriminate. Try not to slip up with the suboxone- very hard! it is not pleasant. Don't take things for granted. The w/d from this is very unpleasant. Wish me luck; and i hope the same for you.
I'm soo much better today (3rd day) I woke up and took 4mg and then 4mg in the first hour. Feel good. way better then yesterday. I took another day off work not going in til tomorrow (which I could be off all week cuz I do not feel ready to go back yet :( But anyway 8mg seemed to do the trick. Now I just dont know if I should take more or not. I guess i have to wait to see how I feel. BUt it's like ok if I start to feel bad in a few hours should I take another 8mg like I did or maybe 4 and see or even just 2 it's hard to know...I go back to the doc tomorrow at 2pm and would like to tell him what works for me.

I agree with beach and wait2long, while there are guidelines for dosages, all of the documentation says that the best amount is the one that eliminates w/d's and cravings. If you were just having cravings I would say that it may be your mind trying to catch up but it sounds like you're actually having physical w/d's. I know my doctor was undertreating me. It wasn't until my 3rd appt when I was crying uncontrollably that we realized he misunderstood what I was taking. He thought I was only taking 1-2 per day and I was actually taking 15-20! As long as you know in your heart that it's not a mental thing (a little is good, a lot must be better) or anxiety, then you should be okay with taking a little more. There is a ceiling effect so you won't od or anything but it's never good to take more than you absolutely need. Good luck and keep posting!
also, pay attention to your cravings..the sub is supposed to stop your cravings...if your cravings are bad, you may need more...but always check with your doctor first...
just take enough to keep the withdrawals at bay, enough to make sure your not sick...you can take up to 32 mgs of sub daily ( i did 32mgs the first 5 weeks, but under totally different circumstances)...but i doubt you will need to do that...also remember the first 4-6 days will be the toughest for you...after that you might be fine with the 6-8 he prescribed...how do you feel? are the withdrawals gone? you may be tired no matter what dose you are on for a few days until the norco has left your system, then you should start to stabilize and feel much better...try to really pay attention to your dose, i had a real difficult time finding my dose, when you find the lowest dose possible and still be comfortable...that most likely will be your dose...but it can be tricky, maybe write it down daily with dose you took and how you feel 1-2 hours after, that is how long it can take before you get the full effect of the sub...are you taking it all at once or are you on a split dose? please, if you have any questions, just ask, there will always be someone here to answer the best they can, best of luck hun...you wont be sorry about this decision you have made, whether you decide short or long term...either way you are receiving the help you deserve...
Hey .. sent you a 'pm' ... ck it out ... i agree, you will know when you have the right dose in you ...
You're on the right track - just be thankful you feel ok, and your dose can be adjusted.
You can have insomnia or be sleepy - you'll know you have the right amount in your system at the start when you feel great.
hey .. how are you feeling now at 10mg? do you feel as if you're still having w/d's ... really tired, achy, edgy? let us know .... and how long has it been since you took more to equal 10mg? YOu have to remember, everyone IS different and you are going to have to get to where YOU are comfortable and NOT feeling bad ... :o)
Not everyone has to take doses that high no matter there habit.. if she was super tired and sleepy I wouldn't take more..
Jenn, Everything I've seen or read says 16 mills the 1st week coming of your habit. I think Gobig is right your, underdosing. You should feel like a pizza and a Coke by now!
IF you were super sleepy I would say you do NOT need more.. sweating on Sub is completely normal.. I sweated alot the whole time I was on it. 10mgs is not really a small amount. From the training manual is a normal dose for day 2.
I took an exxtra 2mg an hour ago and feel slightly better. I too think he started me too low :(
I was taking norcos (10mg) at least 30 a day for the last 6 months and about 20/day bfefore that for the last 4 years.
How many norcos were you taking? and what was the strength?
Btw, be thankful you're sleeping - that says a lot about the shape you're in!
It sounds to me - and I'd definitely speak with your Dr. - like you're taking about 4-6mg too little for this first week. Given the amount of Norco you were taking, you should feel absolutely great @ 16mg for 5-7 days - then you should be tapering by 2mg a week I'd imagine if you were on 16mg you'd feel so much better. My first week, I took 8mg in the morn, then 8mg around 5 or 6 - but run that by your Doc. The whole point of sub. (especially at the beginning) is for you to feel "normal" - if not a tad better than normal.
